had a pretty epic day. Got over to the city early and played the Fleming course at Harding Park. Had never played it and really had no clue about the course. What a delightful little par 30 layout! Great conditioning, pure San Francisco and Fleming with Cypress and big bunkers.
Headed over to Gleneagles and had a blast. The conditions of the course were just ok, but the layout and 25 mpg wind made it fun and challenging. I played another nine after literally having the course all to myself. I loved the 2nd/11th hole. The bar that doubles as the pro shop/clubhouse may be my new favorite public golf mid or post-round hangout.
I loaded up to head back to modesto but there was a big backup so I went over to Sharp Park and played 10 holes until sunset, for free as the pro shop guy had already locked up and told me to just go. Big day!
Play is way down from when he took it over (2005), but is up from where it was during the drought a few years ago. I’m not sure if that was Tom you saw - this is what Tom looks like:
That wasn’t the guy behind the bar the day I played, but I asked for an Irish coffee and got what felt like a half pint of Jameson in my cup. I hadn’t teed off yet and I already loved the place
Funny, you don’t really here about it much here in the Central Valley. I stumbled on it on an unnamed tee time provider (no free ads; we’re not doing that here) and then got some good feedback on the Refuge. Might have to hit it up before trip to the UK to prep for the wind.
I agree it’s got a very low profile. I heard some folks chatting about it and then wanted to play a round with a buddy who lives in Palo Alto. It was well worth the drive from the North Bay.
I have a 4:10 tee time at Corica on Saturday for two players. $35. May not get all 18 in but will come close. Message me if you are interested in joining.
Probably should have posted in here sooner, but I’m in SF. I’m much better at software than I am at golf (I know my role here at NLU), but I played Stanford for the first time over the weekend, got rekt, then hit up Golden Gate Park on Sunday for a chaser.
I’m super late to the thread, but I played it a few years back, the course is essentially tiered (in the sense that one fairway is sometimes above another fairway on the hill) and some of the views are fantastic. Here’s a crummy picture I took from our day.
Any places to play near the south bay that will cost less than $100 walking 18 early am weekend? Any good night time driving ranges with short game areas?
I played Shoreline Golf Links and thought it was okay, not in the greatest shape but could be fun running firm and fast (was very soggy when I played in May). Also really cheap for the area
Hi all. Little refugee round in construction. @buckeyedude7 is driving up from SoCal to play Pasa this Sunday Aug 11. I made a time at 10:30am. Two spots available (should be about $85 to walk). Who wants to join?
