Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

Awesome.
Certainly worth the res rate we paid… $32 I think

Nice playing, Doc!

What’s up everyone-

Just relocated to Napa from SoCal - must say, a very welcomed change of scenery…even with everything going on. Excited to play anywhere that will have me (I’ll take temp checks, pee in a cup, etc)!

Looking forward to gettin out there!

Welcome! You’ve got two great public courses in your backyard in Chardonnay and Eagle Vines, and plenty of private options. Drive a tiny amount to Santa Rosa and places like Bennett Valley are really, really fun and affordable public courses as well.

Glad to hear that about Chardonnay and Eagle Vines. Passed by when we were visiting and really didn’t want to get my hopes up.

Actually found Vintners GC in Yountville to loosen up today. Looks like a tricked out 9 holes? Excited to cover some ground.

Chardonnay/Eagle Vines used to be one course with 27 holes, I think. There was a private and a public course there, and then they split it up and created Eagle Vines. I think they’re interesting because they’re both fun but quite different. Sadly Chardonnay isn’t the greatest course to walk, but certainly doable. In the fall when the harvest comes in, they are both gorgeous with all the colors.

I work up in Napa and try to sneak out for a round, or quick nine at vintners as much as possible. If you’re living the strapped life post move, Kennedy golf course has good twilight deals too.

Welcome to the Bay Area! Hiddenbrooke is another option in your new neck of the woods. I’m generally not too stoked on these housing development courses but I careered there last summer so I’m making an exception lol. But yeah, the grass range is a good start and I had a nice meal and experience at the bar. Worth checking out on a weekday/twilight rate

Not sure if it’s still available, but through GolfNow, I was able to get on Vintner’s, unlimited play, with a cart for about $25 after 2pm. Agreed that Kennedy has some great twilight deals. In addition to the recommendations made from others so far, I suggest Blue Rock Springs in Vallejo, (two 18 hole courses on property), and Rancho Solano, and Paradise Valley, both in Fairfield, not too far from Napa.

I know this is an old post, but any time you’re going across the Golden Gate Bridge you have to think about the minimum $7 toll to get back.

Baylands yesterday, first time playing a round of golf alone in 10+ years…I love it, forgot how amazing it is to walk the course and not have to wait around for others to hit their shots. Maybe it was the long layoff or fewer distractions but I shot one of my best rounds in years even with a couple lost balls. Pace of play was pretty good, got through the whole 18 in a little under 3hrs. I wish I took better notes, there are some tee shots and approaches that I would have chosen differently if I had seen where the good locations to miss were…do they have yardage books online or at their shop?

I tried to look for another time next week but they arent showing any tee times past Sunday, not sure what is up.

Edit: I also had an interesting situation that made me realize how much my mental game needs work. Playing 13 I hit a good drive to the fairway and when I got to my ball the scorecard on my Garmin showed this was a Par 4 (there was another hole it said Par was 3 instead of the actual 4 as well)…and I was still 230 from the green. Most other par 4s I had short irons/wedges in and I just assumed this was the toughest hole on the course. Playing the round of my life I thought I needed to do my best to get par and took a long iron and ended up missing badly and taking what I thought was a double bogey. Had I played the hole like I did a number of the other Par 5s and layed up to 100ish I would have likely given myself a better chance at 5 or maybe even 4. The hole being a 4 or 5 par probably shouldn’t change my plan on a shot like this…the goal is always to have the lowest score possible and keeping the ball in play was working well for me this day and I should have continued it.

Yep, good memories there but not sure how much longer that course is going to be around…

Damn nonchalant attitude about that!

“Traditional placements”

You’ll have plenty of choices, but La Taqueria is the best burrito in town (the country, actually). Nice Italian Bakery next door, too.

Did that course not realize they could buy far fewer noodles by cutting them down to just a few inches (under the lip so almost like a normal putt)?

Playing my club this afternoon and Monarch Bay tomorrow morning! Looking forward to seeing Monarch…haven’t played there in almost a year.

Monarch Bay on a holiday weekend… Prayers Up. Hope you have six or seven hours to spare.

Only sort of joking

Peacock Gap early am round with a friend. Oddly, they are now putting out 4s almost exclusively. I’m not sure why / how. But I can’t blame them from a financial standpoint. Only issue I had was they didn’t change the gapping. 8 mins ?! So it was already backed up when we went off at 7:30a (for 7:20a tee time). Anyway. I’m not complaining. 4 hrs 20 mins. Perfect weather. Course is in V good shape except for a few unfinished bunker renovations. And another round of 80 (38-42), with nothing worse than bogey. Very happy my game is trending. And Thankful we can play.

16 Green.

Haha…I used to play a ton of rounds at Monarch at “first light” which meant the problem was we’d play the front nine in about 1:30 or 1:45 and then run into all the groups playing back nine only. We are teeing off around 9 am so hopefully pace won’t be too bad…but any time on a course beats sitting on my couch watching the same old stuff on TV!

Have a lovely little Sunday morning lined up this weekend. A shot course blitz, if you will.

6 am - Monarch Bay short course
8 am - Lake Chabot short course
10:37 - Diablo Hills

Knock three new courses off the list before the Match on Sunday afternoon.

You did a great job making peacock look great there.

@greebs and i tee off at 9:36 sunday, this gapping doesn’t sound good.

I’ve never seen a picture of 16 green from that angle. Took me a moment to recognize it!
