Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

A lot of times.

@anon47037505 hit a putt that went over a foot by the hole on #8… it rolled back and in. I’ve never seen anything like it.

That putt was incredible. I haven’t seen one that severe before.

where was the pin? front middle? back right?

Back left pin. One of the two “hole-in-one” locations where a tee shot can funnel to the pin from either side of the hole. Note: @anon47037505 putt was for par after a poor tee shot. Right after telling story about holing out for birdie on a par 3 last weekend after a poor tee shot at Rustic with the gang.

That’s a great pin. Sort of in a trough.

4 3-putts is pretty darn good. Last week in our regular game I witnessed 3 4putts from one person.

This sounds great. 26th is open for me.

@BeenMacKenzied is a 10/10 host. The man even brought me a full set of clubs, with multiple putter options.

What a place Pasatiempo is… definitely left with that feeling we all know well of “can’t wait to get another crack at that course”

This little golf society we have is pretty cool. I drop a line that I’ll be in the area, and immediately get a game at an all-world course with some cool people. Hope to get the chance to tee it with @BeenMacKenzied and @anon47037505 again. Duffer also gave me a lift back to SF which was very helpful! RACDG SW chapter is legit.

Thanks again guys - I will be back!

That second picture, of the par-3 3rd … I played in October with a bunch of NLU fans and we all said, roughly at the same time, in our best @Soly voice, “Why is that bunker even THERE?”

Need some help for next week. I have a meeting in Sausalito on Wednesday morning. I’m going to fly in on Tuesday morning and get a round of golf in that day. I’ll have to get back to the airport right after my meeting, so I have one round to play. I’m likely flying into SFO and will have a car. My thoughts so far:

  • TPC Harding Park: Seems like the easiest to get to. Would be cool to play it ahead of the PGA next year, and might actually get me to watch a PGA Championship on TV. My concern would be that with them growing the fairways in and the rough up, would this even be fun? Or do I save it for another trip?

  • Sharp Park: The bones man! I’m “woke”, so this place interests me, but it I kind of feel like it might be the potential of this place that interests me. If you only had one round, is this the place to spend it?

  • Presidio: Don’t know too much here, but the bunkering looks cool and I’ll be staying in the north part of the city.

  • Pasatiempo: This is the big one that I’m afraid to ask about, because I think I know the answer. Should I be spending the 150 miles round trip and 4+ hours in the car to get down to Pasa? This is a big one on my list of must plays, but I thought I would tie it in to my next Pebble trip.

Please give me your wise counsel Bay Area Fugees!

I’d go Harding or Presidio given that you are flying into out of SFO and heading north. Both fun courses. Don’t have first hand knowledge of course conditions, but it has been starting to get wet. My recollection is that Harding gets soggier than Presidio, which did a major drainage improvement within the last decade. I defer to others who have played them more recently.

From SFO it is about an hour to Pasatiempo without traffic. So could be less driving than you think depending on time of day.

Pasa is so much better than the other courses it’s not close. That said … it’s been raining a lot of late and it might be better to save it for a future trip. Of the rest, Sharp is the bargain but with the rain some holes are likely slop.

I’d play Harding. Presidio is, to quote @djpie (though that was about Pacific Grove) a “tight, tight, TIGHT piece of property.” Harding can be fun and should drain well. I wouldn’t worry too much about the rough and there’s not too much trouble on the course itself.
