Darkhorse?..

I just booked a tee time at Darkhorse for July 22 on my way up to Susanville to pick my daughter up from camp. Was going to play The Ridge but the racdg_norcal Instagram account today convinced me to go Darkhorse.

I love that place man… first time I played was back in 2007… still haven’t gotten there since 2019. Have fun brother!

the ridge is a course I been meaning to get out to & my uncle lives in darkhorse but I haven’t played there since probably like 2011/2012ish, I think it’s the 2nd hole? which is an uphill short par 4 where if you miss long there’s no way to stop the ball on the green coming back for some reason I vividly remember that hole

My family and a group of friends used to rent houses at Sea Ranch every year when I was a kid. Never played the golf course until a couple of years after I got married and we went back for a weekend. @TheHonChiefJustice I need a logo ball!

Don’t know if it used to be private, but I’m guessing, even back then you could get on if you were renting a house.

I wasn’t paying, so I have no idea of the cost, but there are a ton of rental houses in Sea Ranch. Renting one on a golf weekend would be the way to go. It is cool to just hang out for the weekend, with the trails, beaches, etc. besides the golf.

Malibu Grand Prix was still a thing at the time, and on the drive up we (the kids) always talked about racing those cars on those roads.

Edit: Looked it up and the Redwood City location was open until 2013!

It was, in fact, an Employee who destroyed several greens driving donuts and peeling out on the course in his pickup truck after being fired. I don’t play Haggin often. Unless it’s special to you, it’s nothing special. That said it’s a very fun track and anyone doing donuts on greens sucks at life.

Hey, I know it’s not the date but if you can make it work on the 22nd I’d be honored and psyched to tee it up with you. I booked 12:30 PM for what it’s worth.

Thanks dude. I would but it’s a tradition to play on the actual date. We typically do a family breakfast/dinner depending on when I play, etc.

For sure understand. I will therefore ask you to take copious notes and provide me with some tips - appreciate ya!

(Just kidding of course.)

I don’t think you can go wrong between the two. My dad absolutely loves the ridge, we would play it every time we were in the area. I do think it’s easier than Darkhorse but both are very fun tracks.

What are the group thoughts on shoreline? I’m going to play it for the first time this weekend.

Interesting mix of holes with some fun corners to cut. Conditioning was always suspect and lots of goose poop. I haven’t played there in a couple years, though.

9 was always a fun tee shot because you can hit it over the trees on the right to a blind fairway, but end up having like 150 in for your 2nd shot on a part 5.

Also, take at least an extra club on 17. It always seems to be at least one club even when there’s no wind.

Gets really windy in the afternoon which to me is a lot of fun and makes the course more interesting. Some really good holes and a mix of strategy, greens are usually in pretty decent shape but fairways & rough are not well maintained. It’s pretty baked out at the moment, but if you stray off the fairways you run the risk of your ball going down into a squirrel hole (of which there are many) and vanishing. Lots of geese on a few holes as well. Pace of play can be hit or miss. Lots of drops for burrowing animals. If you can look past the rough edges it’s a fun layout

Hey All… just spent about 20 minutes deleting notification emails from my hotmail…

How do I disable email alerts from Threads I follow on the Refuge?

I tried looking… just couldn’t find it… Thanks in advance.

Is it just a flip to tracking…?

For what it’s worth I have a few friends who are locals up there and they all agree that The Ridge is the best in the area but Darkhorse is really nice, I don’t think you can go wrong with either tbh.
