Roll Call: Atlanta - Players Ball 12/13 - Campout 3/15 - Stankonia 6/7

hey! Welcome. What are you looking for in a private club? And what is your definition of affordable (no disrespect). The Atlanta market for private clubs is somewhat unique.

Affordable and Good Golf - (but limited other activities)

  • RiverMont and Berkeley Hills - both are within 20-30 mins of brookhaven. We have members at both and some live in the sandy springs/brookhaven neighborhoods.

6 figure initiation but good clubs and longer waitlists

  • Druid Hills
  • Atlanta Country Club

6 figure, really good golf and longer waitlists plus social capital

  • Ansley
    -Capital City

50k+ initiations and solid golf

  • Dunwoody Country Club
  • Horeshoe Bend

What’s up ATLovers and Peach Tree Pickers,

I’m heading to the East side of the city for a bachelor party end of March (Old Fourth Ward area). We’re trying to put 1-2 rounds on the books over the course of the weekend.

Obviously willing to drive a bit. I’m eyeing West Pines after enjoying that at the Regional last year, but I am here humbly submitted to you all for recommendations as well as any warnings!

(CC @RangerB as the seeming go-to guru in these parts, but all others can chime in too). Appreciate it!

*Willingly disclaiming that I am now reading back the thread for existing recs–should have done my homework first

Can’t go wrong with West Pines. Browns Mill is the defacto muni and closer to where you’ll be. Personally I’d hit those and not try to drive anywhere else unless some of our c suite guys can host you.

Depending on where you are looking to join you could be looking at 5-8 year wait lists at this point for anything in the city limits. I am not sure what the OTP (outside of the I-285 loop) wait lists look like but could find out. Covid really grew the game here in Atlanta. I’ll leave it to others to decide whether it was a good thing or not. I will echo other people in saying that Rivermont and Berkley are among the more affordable clubs to join relatively speaking but are both really fun courses and have a bunch of great players/lots of good games. I used to belong to St Ives and I really like that course as a daily driver and they also have many different games going on and some fun groups out there as well. I think its likely more pricey than Rivermont or Berkely but has more quality non-golf amenities (great pool, tennis, pickle, etc) yet not near as expensive as the clubs located in the city.

If you are moving here in a few years I am not being hyperbolic by saying that it probably makes sense to try to make a move to get in somewhere sooner (like now) rather than later because it’s likely you would still have a gap between moving here and getting in somewhere. I have a friends/contacts at a majority clubs around so if you want some more (unfiltered) information I would be happy to help you out. Just PM me on here and we’ll connect.

Haven’t been on the board in awhile. I apologize if this question is answered in another post.

Wife and I are coming to Alpharetta to stay with some college friends April 9-11. Want to play a round on Friday April 10. Best public courses in the area?? Any clubs that will allow guests without members??

4 handicap and wife hovers around 15 but hasn’t played a lot since summer. Price isn’t really an issues Just looking for best case for one round.

Thanks!

Riverpines is pretty decent in that area as far as public options go.

Not many private courses that allow non-public play. Especially during that week with Masters happening.

Always depends on how far you’re willing to drive.

Echelon is probably your best option. Probably 20 minutes away in Milton.

The house we’re staying at is in The Golf Club of Georgia - Creekside neighborood. So, Echelon doesn’t look like it’s very far away.

Anyone got dining recs near that area? Any type of food really. Obviously, I can see stuff on OpenTable, Yelp, etc. but wondering if there’s any under-the-radar local knowledge.

If you’re over by GCoG, go to Secreto.

Good list, probably needs updating.

Standard - great local bar / good pizza
SmokeJack - really good BBQ
Truck N Tap - fun place for a drink
Jekyll is closed - Central City is good
