looks like rain in the forecast; sincerely appreciate the offer though!

Currently more than a 50% chance of relocation to the area. If anyone has suggestions for areas with solid schools shoot me a DM. Wife is a teacher so that will help us decide where we are gonna end up around the city.

Not the area you were asking about last week, that’s for sure.

Typically a lurker here, but you could consider moving to Decatur or even the mountain park area of Gwinnett. I’m a former district leader from GCPS and live in the lilburn area, the schools are great in the area plus your commute to the airport is 35-40 min on most mornings. Coming home during rush hour is a different experience. Decatur City Schools are are also solid and could provide your family access to a solid downtown environment and access to the marta line to the airport.

I have many of the surrounding school districts in my current client base, so feel free to shoot me a pm if you want some insight on performance.

Not sure where you’d have to work, but Oconee county out here in the middle nowhere is the spot for schools.

Unfortunately there are no good public school systems in metro Atlanta. Perhaps pockets of North Fulton and parts of Gwinnett County but you still have to deal with the county school board. Decatur City schools test well but they are on their third superintendent in three years and focused on everything but education. Atlanta Public Schools has not recovered from the cheating scandal of years back. Dekalb County Schools has a disfunction school board and deteriorating school buildings (see student YouTube videos). Gwinnett County Schools is the largest school district in Georgia and that comes with its own problems. Maybe Cobb County but those schools are getting so big. Do your research before you purchase a home.

I have a friend arpund Marietta/Kennessaw and her kids seem to be good up there. 1 in high school and 1 in middle school. I don’t know enough about it, but maybe someone can chime in.

Can’t legitimately speak for peachtree city area school wise, but all the people I’ve met that went to school there seemed to have positive reports.

based on my wife and her network from growing up in Atlanta and friends. Cobb County grew out the way it did because of their schools. Especially east cobb and it’s remained that way.

I can’t speak to stuff in Gwinnett and so forth but from an outsiders perspective. The Atlanta public school scene is very much like the Atlanta golf scene. There’s good public options but you have to make sacrifices for location or details, all the best stuff is private and very difficult to get access to and public in the city is a tough scene.

Lots of useful information. Appreciated greatly! Hopefully we can figure something out!

Gwinnett native and Parkview High grad. I had a great experience with Gwinnett public schools growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, but I think your mileage will vary greatly across high school districts these days. I concur with @RangerB’s comp to the golf scene. My wife and I dream of moving to Oconee County, but having to commute every day to my office in Buckhead makes that unworkable for the time being.

The soft skills gained from going to a public school in Dekalb county have helped me way more in my life than some test score 15 years ago that no one gives a shit about anymore.

I think the TLDR is, this is Atlanta… unless you rich AF, everything is going to be 30-45 mins away.

Atlanta Metro schools are more about the specific school rather than the district. This is what makes areas more expensive to live in (ex: North Springs HS vs Riverwood, Sprayberry vs. Walton). Pockets are the right way to describe it
