Hello fellow nesticles. By some stroke of luck I was selected for Masters tix and was looking for suggestions of where to play, and not play, in the Atlanta area. We are staying downtown so anywhere around the city is open game. I appreciate the assistance!! Thank you all.

Bobby Jones Golf Course is fun and good value and I really liked Howell’s Kitchen & Bar nearby for a post-round beer and feed.

And…bookmarked!

Hahaha I eventually changed it cause I figured you never even saw this…

Anyone able to play in the later afternoon on the 15th, 16th, or 17th of Aug? Will be in town again for work and on a 5am-3pm shift staying in Midtown

Does anyone have an inside scoop on what the hell Charlie Yates did to their greens? Played once in June after the course was in great shape for like 8 months, and the greens were RUINED. Dirt patches and brown spots everywhere. The clubhouse folks claimed that the “cold spring” killed the greens, but it looks like someone messed up chemicals or something. It’s atrocious right now….they are completely replacing #7 and #9 greens.

Random Golf Club came to town

Hi all, South Carolinian refuge here and will be in Atlanta for the Tour Champ on the 26th. My buddy and I are looking for somewhere to play the morning of Sunday the 27th, any recommendations? Will travel an hour or so and would love to play a nice track.

are you tying to get back in time for the tournament, leave town, etc? Curious because 1 hour getting there does not equal one hour getting back in Atlanta. And what’s your route home to SC - 85N to greenville or 20 east to Columbia.

We are just going Saturday, so no tourney Sunday. I’m not too concerned with my route home, just my buddy who lives in ATL not driving too far (forgot to mention it’s just me going to ATL for the weekend). Thinking UGA course maybe but figured i’d ask y’all as well, heard tee times there can be tough.

If you’re headed back up 85 then it’s not too bad of a detour to UGA. @DawgLeg might be around to Sherpa you.

Yeah maybe UGA course. Since it’s allegedly going fully private soon, Old Toccoa Farm is worth the trip. Will be a little more than an hour though. Otherwise your best public courses that would qualify as nice are Echelon, Cobblestone, Chateau Elan maybe.

Interesting! I had not heard about OTF going private. Only been up there from ATL once, may have to make it a priority this fall.

What’s the supposed timing of OTF going private?

alleged by a guy on the atlanta discord late June. Says he think it’ll be new year. Nothing else to substantiate it but this one report. If I had to guess, they might eliminate general public play, but still offer stay/play packages with their cottages. Similar to McLemore and other private courses that have a very small resort component.

Have you considered Cateechee GC in Hartwell? Just minutes off of I85. Great course with no houses. https://cateechee.com/

Hey ATL, I’ve got a long layover in Atlanta tomorrow and was thinking about going to East Lake. Does anyone have an extra ticket I could buy. Also any chance public transportation can get me there from near the Falcons Stadium (that’s where my hotel is)?

I can’t help you with tickets but your best bet for transportation is just to take an Uber. You could take a MARTA train to the East Lake station but then would have to walk about 2 miles in this heat to the course. MARTA also has buses that leave the East Lake MARTA station but no idea if they go near the course. Take Uber.
