I have the WJ credit card, which gives everyone in the family a free checked bag. I can use one of those for clubs and there’s never been an extra charge. We do one, maybe two, family flights a year and the card pays for itself in avoided baggage fees alone.
I knew i liked you Mike. Might have a new credit card in the works. After a long while on a travel rewards card I went to cash back cards for the last few years but this WJ card idea will definitely be worth it travelling with family a couple times a year. Good call.
I just got this card. Good to know I can use it on my golf clubs. Going to be flying a bit more this year and having that cost come down is a big help
Calgary Crew! Let’s play some sim golf.
Quick info gathering post here - would folks prefer mid-week or weekend? Early afternoon or post-kid bedtime where applicable?
Thursdays are about to get tough for me with soccer picking back up, and Sunday is a no go for family stuff. Other than that, I’m super easy.
Also, anyone have a favourite spot? I’m in Montgomery so relatively central - happy to go north or south. I know @Bunk is pretty central too. I’ve been down to GoGoGo Golf on southland a few times to see my pal Kendra - good setup, but not the best course list. The range / par 3 at Deerfoot and Glenmore have trackman sims and a decent beer list. Other than that, I haven’t used a ton of other spots since I’ve been back in town. Always open to options!
Throw your thoughts in and we’ll have a little winter get together in the next couple weeks.
Count me in! Most nights it’s possible for me to get out in the evening, later the better
Tagging a few locals here - @T3J @Seandupl @JDWilson @cmonk28
Let’s get something going this week or next!
Sound like a great idea. I can make most week nights work except for Wednesday. I can make every second Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday’s during the day or evening work.
I have only used the simulators at Hotel arts however the course list is not great. The trackman sims at Golfuture (Glenmore and Deerfoot) sounds good and is pretty central.
Yeah I’m in! like @Bunk , i’m good for Monday to Thursday weeknights, probably 8pm or after! (Can’t go next wednesday Feb1, gonna go see Connor Bedard vs. Hitmen.
)
I’ll use Elbow Springs’s sim’s, with GCHawk, where you can get a room with a TV to yourselves. But ya only the base set of courses (which is fine). I’ve used totalgolfyyc sim’s, also GCQuad/Hawks, and they have more courses. But i’m happy with anything!
Groovy - I’ll take a look at some later options and see what we can pull together! Look forward to seeing you all.
30th and 31st are tough, but likely good most other days
Shoutout to our famous albertan @Bunk who made a brief appearance by reference on the last pod. Putting us on the map!
I’ll be available for autographs at the next get together ![]()
Morning,
New nest member, but long time follower of all things NLU.
Checking in from Central Alberta. Over the years my love of the game has increased, but unfortunately my closest friends don’t necessarily share my passion. For years I’ve watched the boys on NLU and other forums live out their dream, but it’s always been a fantasy for me to play some of the courses they play or go on the trips they take. It’s just never been a reality to talk my friends into anything outside their immediate bubble.
So I was happy to find this forum and keep my ear to the ground for any potential meet ups or rounds within the area. Worst case get some advice or share information with others that are familiar with the Alberta scene.
Good looking out. ![]()
Welcome. It’s a familiar tale, I’m up in e-town and always happy to golf with fellow sickos.
Not sure what qualifies as central but I bet we can make something work. Your biggest challenge may be picking sides for the battle of alberta whenever we gather our alberta crew for our fight next summer.
The answer, of course, is Calgary. Although I’m in Vancouver today and I’m about ready to move here, given the temps today.
Good Folks of Alberta! Just rebooked our cancelled trip from last year.
Headed to your province for the first time July 2-July 13.
Looking at playing golf with as many of you as possible.
Here is my current itinerary for golf. Booking Banff and Jasper soonish. Everything else will probably have to wait a few months.
Sunday July 2nd - Mickelson National ~3pm with @duncmitchell
Thursday July 6th - Twilight at Jasper
Friday July 7th - Jasper
Monday July 10th - Banff - Duncan is planning on joining here as well
Wednesday July 12th - All day at Kananaskis - Looking for someone to come along and play 36 in what looks to be a spectacular place!
Let me know if you are interested in playing a round. We can coordinate details here or over DM.
Cheers!
I’m sure I could make one of those days. I’ve never played Jasper, so that is tempting. But Banff or the Kananskis day also could work. Will see what day is easiest to take a day off from work.
Alex. Would love to join for one or two of those rounds however unfortunately I am in B.C. for those two weeks. If my plans change I will message you to see if you have any spots open.
Dragging my feet here, sorry gang - ended up traveling Wednesday to Saturday for work which threw my whole schedule out.
Back at my desk this week and will throw out some dates and times for a hang. Stay tuned…
Leaning towards this place - https://www.radgolf.ca/ - central, got a crazy wraparound sim, the beer is provided by my pal’s shop, ABX, and they’re open until 10.30-11pm which suits the later-than-earlier requirement. Also has availability, which a ton of the “better” sims don’t in the evenings right now.
Thinking we shoot for 7.30 Tuesday next week?

Let me know who’s around, and we’ll get something booked.
