Lol, just throw out a list. I haven’t played em all either. Thats why its interesting… just keep the convo going. 1 list, seperate lists, it don’t matter. Let’s see em
Bottom of the list. Haleyville Country Club
This is false… we are next to last, ahead of, Pikeville
It is interesting to think about what a Strapped Birmingham would look like.
Feel like it starts with Highland Park (mega bonus opportunity) and Oak Mountain.

*I’ve played every one of these at some point in my life.
Also if anyone in AL wants to get together to play I’m always down. I live in Huntsville, but I’ll meet ya all over this great state.
Your list really emphasizes how many RTJ course are out there. And I have not played any of them. We may need an AP poll style ballot to come to any group consensus.
Publics I have played - ranked on what I would prefer to play again (no consideration of logistics or cost).
- Kiva Dunes
- Gulf Shores GC
- Ol Colony
- Bent Brook
Orange Beach Golf Center (lol)
Private
- Mountain Brook Club - to me its perfect
- Indian Hills CC - fantastic conditioning post renovation. Front 9 is a little repetitive.
- North River YC - needs to remove about 1,000 trees
Want to play next:
Country Club of Birmingham
The Ledges
Lakewood Golf Club
Highland Park
Every time I drive by I think… “why not just hop out and go play?”
Listen. I think its like $20 for all day play. You can play 9 in 30-40 minutes.
For the cost - and location close to the beaches - plus a lighted range - its more than fine. I would love to have a very non-serious course like this in my town.
I think you could honestly make a “publix run” down there and get 9 in at this place - grab whatever groceries you needed and get back to your condo and nobody would be the wiser.
Played it as a kid and freaking loved that place. Then I went to Craft Farms and realized that was a whole different situation. Lol, also, it doesn’t qualify as AL, put just across the state line in FL is Lost Key. Screw Lost Key.
Hah I actually meant the little place on 59 before you get to the airport- both seem like easy places to hit around during a lunch break.
Not gonna lie, I was too. Lol, I can’t really comment on Alabama as whole (other than my hatred for the Marshalls at RTJ Opelika), but I’ll toss in my rankings below of courses down on the coast.
- Kiva Dunes
- Cotton Creek
- Penninsula
- Sitting on the Beach
- Walking around Publix
- Driving I65 between BHam and Montgomery at 6 PM on a Friday
- Lost Key
PREACH
I would much rather play Perdido Bay or Gulf Shores GC.
Lost Key is beyond penal it’s just cruel.
I used to work at Grand National in college and used my discount to play them all with my buddies. Love RTJ and there’s a lot they get right but also a lot they get wrong in my opinion.
Sorry, forgot that we were calling it by the wrong name. My dad loves it and loves to laugh at me playing there. I have such a mental block on that course that I am screwed before I ever step onto the first tee.
Does this refer to the Willow Point in Alexander City? Pretty sure it’s private
My mistake I thought it was public. I’ll remove.
Replaced it with an RTJ equivalent
Were you not a fan of WP? Some of those views on that back 9 are pretty sweet.
Hoping to play Indian Hills in the Mid Am this year. If you are in Bham you need to try and get on at Hoover CC. My uncle used to work there back in the day. North River lost quite a few trees this past year from storms. My high school team has a tournament there at the beginning of March. Peninsula is one of my favorites down at the beach.
It was pretty cool playing it the first time. I feel like the whole course just blends in together and not much sticks out.
