I have to work but I’d for sure take you up on that if I didn’t.
If I wasn’t visiting a friend would join.

There are going to be changes made to the NIT it seems NLU is trying to centralize some of the meet up mechanisms to maybe try and motivate more people to get involved. They mentioned this on last month’s podcast and there will be more context in this month’s which drops today. Seems likely we’ll be joining forces with another state to form a pretty big contingent. This could hopefully lead to more meetups and some official events.
I’ll post again after I listen to the Nest Pod and can break it down more.
Hey, I was thinking that we might be able to join forces with a group along the gulf coast. If there’s a critical mass between southern AL, LA, and MS it might be an option. Let’s say the CCA of golf sickos. Just a thought.
I think we can be a roost starter. Maybe with Mississippi, Gulf Coast and Tennessee Valley?
I’m willing to play at Fallen Oak or the Grand Bear in southern MS. Dancing Rabbit/ Mossy Oak/ Old Waverly in central MS. Kiva Dunes or an RTJ site may be a good fit if we wanted to do something in south AL. I know there are other courses that I have not listed that would work, but those are a few that may garner interest.
It would make sense that we join forces with MS, LA, GA and/or TN to meet more people.
We’ve got a month to see what’s possible. I made a Google sheet to start collecting interested people.
If we’re able to get this thing rolling, I’d happily host/organize a match/meet in lower AL this coming year.
Anyone near or in Mobile? Have a good friend moving there and looking to join a club.
Hey, I just joined the Nest and am posting for the first time. I’ve just moved to Dothan, AL (lower AL native though) and live right by Highland Oaks RTJ. Anyone else in the area?
Just wanted to shoutout the assistance from the Alabama guys as we did a mini golf trip to Alabama last week that was decidely non-RTJ golf trail and it was great. We played Timberline, Highland Park, Ballantrae (based on recommendations in this thread) and Pursell Farms and the group liked each course for different reasons but we all were especially impressed with Ballantrae (except for the fake turret that you can see from 17 tee which is absurd and hilarious and how ridiculously far into the housing developments the course is. Felt like we were driving through planned housing communities for 30 minutes to get there).
We had played Pursell before so no surprise there. Thought Highland Park was a tad bit expensive but very enjoyable and Timberline was solid. Overall, would play Ballantrae over any of the RTJ courses in Birmingham and came away thinking it was a great value, interesting holes, good conditions. So thanks again to all!
Glad you enjoyed greater Birmingham golf. Ballantrae is great, it’s just so busy. Sometimes it’s hard to get tee times.
Come back soon!
@FarFromScratch There are a few folks from Mobile, AL on here and probably a couple from the Dothan, AL area.
There is a signup sheet linked above for people in Louisiana, MS, and AL that are trying to form a group to possibly set up events in 2022. Take a look and put your name down if you have interest in playing and meeting new golfers.
Hey guys…I’ll be in Auburn for the weekend. Any recs on where to play? I have played the RTJ Lakes course once but thats my only time. Also, if anyone wants to play let me know I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday.
I’m in quarantine plus I’m at the other end of the state. I enjoy the links course more than the lakes course. Dunno if you are a rtj trail hater or not but I think that’s the best rtj facility in the state. The fields in Georgia might be in your area depending how far you want to drive. I have heard great things from a course architecture perspective but have not played there.
If the weather is ok Sunday I can play at RTJ
The fields is awesome. I’m in Atlanta so it’s an easy trip down. I’ll try and play the links Sunday then.
ya’ll have fun!
Unfortunately didn’t get to make the trip this weekend. Hopefully will get back to play soon.
No worries. That course is going to be soggy anyway.
