Return of the “Ope”-in - August 18th and 19th 2023: The Battle for Stattis

Co-sign. Had to run to the Kwik Trip while my family continued to eat as the bathroom was in ruins.

I may know the exact Kwik Trip you’re talking about and it’s like being on a different planet

It’s that Kwik Trip.

The family bathroom in there is a lifesaver.

Okay sickos. I’m planning my jaunt out there.

That’s my route, anything worthwhile on the way. Probably planning to leave really early the Wednesday morning.

I wouldn’t mind finding a course in Michigan to play that day or even somewhere in Illinois if there’s another Refugee gonna be in the area at that time or heading that way.

Culvers is on the list for food, anything else noteworthy.

Not golf-related but if you drink beer, 3 Floyds in Munster, IN is along your route. I would stop.

lol that chicago traffic looks extraordinarily light……must have been a 1am directions look up

Sadly closed now, otherwise great suggestion

If Michigan, Diamond Spring HIGHLY recommended. Stoatin Brae is another decent one, but kind over priced.

If you come through Chicago/suburbs, we have plenty of recs to pass along.

I’m definitely a Strapped vibe guy, trying to keep it low cost. I’m thinking I’m gonna try and snag an early morning tee time at Rackham if I can since its right over the border for me, and than hopefully maybe get a twilight tee time somewhere in Illinois, preferably at a cool muni or something on the lower end of the cost spectrum.

You’ll want to monitor day-of, but you’ll very likely be better off crossing at Sarnia/Port Huron. Less traffic, better highway (94 is a disaster in the Detroit area) and fewer individuals enforcing the speed at which you travel.

I’ll be driving from West MI so depending on when you’re passing through Stoatin Brae could be an option to meet up and play (close to your intended route of travel through the K’zoo area).

EDIT: Just saw the Rackham piece; obviously that would nullify my suggested route.

Whew, it’ s just the brewpub. They are still making and selling some awesome beer.

True, should’ve clarified, just the brewpub. Can still pickup bottles/cans from the kiosk.

See I’m always down to meet up with another and play, thats kinda my preferred routing on this trip. I’m bringing along the camera equipment and filming part of it as well, hence some of the pre-planning now.

This place looks gorgeous as well, but what’s up with the “Halfway Bunker” was it an old military base?

Can’t remember the story, but it is cool and pretty hidden.

Although they had just ran out of bunker dogs and brats when i pulled up last summer, major disappointment.

Where are you (potentially) staying Wednesday night? You could hit up Spring Valley, an early L&M design, or Eagle Springs on your way and not have too long of a drive to the course afterwards. Both are in the Strapped Budget.
You can also throw a rock in any direction while in IL and a Refugee will organize a tee time for you
