Refuge Secret Santa - 2024: See you in November!

Thank you to my secret Santa (for real this time) for this very cool shipment of vintage print materials!!!

At the bottom is an absolutely stunning full-color Bucherer catalog from around 1968 I think? Will certainly send me down a very long and winding rabbit hole researching all of the Bucherer, Vulcain, Rolex, and Piaget watches pictured within (as well as the very gorgeous clocks and jewelry!)

At the top, as far as I can tell (my German is rusty at best!) is a trio of timetable brochures for the Deutsche Bundesbahn Hispania-Express line between Barcelona and Copenhagen—a train line that I have actually ridden between Geneva and Lausanne, and a rail company who is a former client of mine!! I can’t wait to figure out a way to frame and display these properly (hopefully with my tickets if I can dig them up!).

Thank you so much to whoever pulled these together, these are awesome!!

Edit: just found the letter within, thank you for the kind note on top of everything else @agwalkMKE !! Next time I’m in Wisconsin I owe you a pint.

You’re very welcome! I’m glad it’s more personal than I ever could’ve known.

This showed up in my email and I think it’s safe to assume it’s from @PFitz. What an awesome gift. I know I didn’t give you much to work with by not making a list, but this is awesome. I’ve really enjoyed getting into SGS/TFE this year and it’s made me want to dive deeper into learning about golf course architecture. Already started digging in to some of the posts. Can’t wait to see what all they have to offer. Thanks again!

Many thanks to @jwfickett for a very thoughtful gift. A custom Seattle Seahawks cribbage board. Already putting it to use.

Learned to play cribbage serving aboard the USS Jimmy Carter.

Awesome! My dad is from Maine and grew up playing, also won his fair share of games aboard the USS Nimitz from 78-82. Very glad he taught me crib and golf…two things I eventually will pass along to my kid.

Cheers and don’t get skunked!

Can confirm! I just got home from watching the most disappointing Sugar Bowl performance from my Dawgs and noticed I had a package from a familiar name in recent NLU content, and also someone I am most envious of when it comes to jobs. Conveniently today is also my birthday, so the timing couldn’t have been better.
The personalized ball from one of my favorite Baby Braves, Jeff Francoeur, and the leather Dawgs valuables pouch are both greatly appreciated! Honestly, I sent the picture to my girlfriend and she was more excited about all the Erin Hills merch since I got her tickets to the USWO for Christmas. Plan on making it out to a Brewers game while we’re in town as well.
I appreciate all the thoughtful gifts, would love to thank you again in person when we’re in Milwaukee later this year!

Come on through! Looking forward to it! Wear comfy shoes for Erin Hills. Not the easiest of spectator walks

My original plan fell through, but seeing you frequent the SGS thread gave me enough of an idea!

Big thanks to @dshaddy for the wonderful gifts. The Fenway sign will make its way into the bonus room very soon. Big fan of the Super Troopers themed bag tag and divot tool (says Ramathorn on it if you zoom in). Merry Christmas!

Mea Culpa here - been trying to get some time to write up a proper thank you.

Like a gift from Santa himself, I found a mysterious package at my door in the wee hours of Christmas morning when i arrived back from my in-laws. Inside was a variety of great gifts from the great up North! I’m rocking the SSC beanie as i write out this post, and will be frame shopping for the wonderful course prints later today.

Thank you @bignanski, and Merry Christmas!

Cheers, brother! We got porch pirated around Christmas for the first time which made me a little paranoid. Glad everything made it safely. You had mentioned “local course stuff” so I sorta took that in a Home and Home direction - Landmand is quasi-local to me and with The Cornstalk planning, I’m almost always thinking about it. Mega thanks to @kcurry11 for the assist on the NLT course prints; he did all the work, I just did a little editing and sent them to the printer.
