Refuge Secret Santa - 2024: See you in November!

Well this is just delightful. Thank you to @ABR (I hope I figured that out correctly from your note!). There is definitely room in the golffice to add this drawing of Michigan Stadium (I couldn’t get it to lay flat just yet without some weights holding the corners down); in fact I ordered a frame already this AM. The single prong pitch tool from Southern Hills is going straight in the bag and is definitely from the top club compared to the others that I have. And I’m sure I’ll find a home for these stickers

HUGE shouts to @CorneliousPoon for taking the leap into my post history to try and distill out a gift idea. He absolutely nailed it with the Minimalist Tiki book which has been on my mind to grab (or at least read from the library) for awhile now. I cannot wait to dive into it and my wife™ has already suggested I find a recipe to make for this weekend when we have friends come to visit.

The cookies got a bit crumbled in the transport, but I’m still looking forward to devouring those and finding out what this custom gift you’re so proud of that hasn’t arrived yet will be.

You absolutely crushed it already! Thank you so much!

Huge shoutout to @Conley76 for the shipment of beer and mead Olive Oil for my secret Santa gift. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to drink and eat new things and he absolutely killed it. My wife is already trying to steal the natural beer made with Pinot Noir grapes. Thanks man, this shipment is amazing.

Glad you’re into it. I had trouble figuring out something to get you other than something really generic; But I had seen your posts in the wine thread and it seemed like you’re into exploring new stuff like that, so I picked out stuff that would be wine-adjacent. The silver wax mead will be drier and closer to a sweet red, the cranberry mead is sweet but also finishes pretty tart and acidic, and the other one will be very sweet and fruity and is great for dessert.

For the beers, that De Garde with Pinot noir grapes will be mildly acidic and dry, but can lean a little heavy on the acidic side at times. I’d recommend opening that near a sink too, as some of those bottles can foam up a lot when you pull the cork. The Drie Fonteinen is their elevated geueze blend that I absolutely love. I legit could drink it every day. Very funky, like a pungent cheese. The last one is an old lambic blend aged on cherries that used to only be found in Belgium, so it’ll be similar, but also more acidic. Fruited lambic can sometimes get too acidic and overpower the funkiness that makes it what it is, but I like the balance that that one strikes.

If the mead’s are a bit much to drink in one sitting, they can be recorked and will keep in the fridge for a shockingly long time.

I guess I cheated a bit because I already had all of these on hand, but a couple of these I got through memberships, and the rest aren’t things you can just walk into a store and find. These are all bottles I really enjoy, so I love being able to share them with folks open to trying new stuff like this, and I hope you guys enjoy them too.

Amazing stuff, thank you so much. It’s getting harder and harder to find unique drinks down here in South Florida with the monopoly that Glazer’s Southern has on the market, so this kind of thing is absolutely awesome for me. I’m really looking forward to cracking a few of these in the next few weeks.
