Staggered - I’ll make that clearer

Thanks. That’s what I figured, but wanted to make sure. It’s been a long few months. I need someone to hold my hand through these things lately. haha.

Awesome, wrapping up another book for another club, but excited to reread this one. Was thinking of Confederacy of Dunces when I saw the title for some reason, but checked the bookshelves and remembered what Amazing Adventures was actually about - should be a great discussion!

I finally found the series of fantasy novels I was talking about at last book club. It was by Piers Anthony, 8 book series called “incarnations of immortality”. Each book is told from a different point of view. Many of the events are overlapping.

Whoa, this looks interesting. And a 25+ year gap for the final? Always cool to see a wrap up that long overdue, might have to check these out.

Hey all, apologies for being absent over the past few months. Massive thank you to @Sarah for always being on top of things

A lot of new members, so will update the Google doc today

What are everyone’s thoughts on mid-December for Amazing Adventures? Will be a good one - hopefully with a surprise guest!

Ha, that means I probably never read the final, as I read these more than 30 years ago.

Any way I can get in on the club? I figured this would be a good time since Kavalier & Clay is one of my all time favorites!

Hoping to get involved soon! Actually started Matterhorn a week ago and will use that as my first book. Alternating nights reading that and Five Families so the timing should be perfect!

Finishing Dune right now and then will jump on Matterhorn. Recently joined The Refuge and excited to #getinvolved

I’m finishing up “Barbarian Days” (shoutout to @Tron for pushing it so hard, would have never read it without that level of praise, and it’s excellent) and I’m in a quandary - I’ve already read Matterhorn AND Kavalier and Clay. But I read both of them some time ago, and I doubt I’ll be able to add much to the discussion if I don’t re-read them. (I’ve tried this before in the one other Book Club I was in, thinking I’d remember it and then realizing during the discussion I … did not.)

Thoughts? I am inclined to re-read both, since they’re brilliant but as the saying goes, “So Many Books, So Little Time.”

I re-read Kav & Clay last summer and it was an entirely different book the second time around. I recommend it!

Both will be rereads for me also, and I kind of went through similar thought struggles based on their length.

I landed on reread since it’s been a while. Both previously struck me as being so amazingly well written. I’m also pumped to see how well these plug into such a great discussion group.

That said, nerdy book me is mapping out 2021 reading goals after what appears to be woefully short of my 1/week hopes for 2020.

I do the “Goodreads Challenge” each year and chose 40 books this year. According to Goodreads I’ve read 49 already, which is a massive testament to the quarantine as I’ve been home a lot more than normal. So I’ll probably get to 52 before year end. Gonna be an outlier for sure however, god willing in 2021 we’re allowed to socialize outside with humans again

Nice work! I use their challenge as well. Tend to put 50 in as a default and come up short. 39 currently with a couple on the home stretch. Definitely quarantine enhanced for sure. Maybe some “quick ready candy” for Christmas to get to the finish line.

I did this one year, but found having a goal of a certain number of books made my shy away from longer books or giving up on books that I wasn’t enjoying. So far this year I’ve read 11 books. Admittedly, having a baby and not having a 30-minute bus ride to and from work everyday has cut down on my available reading time, but 11 is dramatically below my average from previous years. Looking over my list, I remembered that the first book I read was a 1300 page biography that took me three months to finish. I’m glad I read it, but I cant pretend I would have committed to it if I was shooting to complete a certain number.

Definitely can understand that. My ultra book nerd confession is logging my minutes like some elementary school kid. I think I shared this in the “What are you reading” thread.

Seemed like a fun challenge one year and have done it ever since w a 30/day goal.

2020 = 10,605 min / 305 days / 34.77 thru Oct. Covid enhanced again as 30 per isn’t easy for me.

Man, I need help.
