About 40% done with this and looking forward to the discussion. I will be surprised if there aren’t a lot of disparate opinions on this one so far. I personally have no idea if I like it or not!
Shout out to my local indi Trident Booksellers in Back Bay, Boston. Always encourage supporting the local booksellers, especially with it being Amazon Prime Day. Looking forward to reading them all, Trust Exercise looks great.
I love Trident. Between that place and Brookline Booksmith I spent way too much money on books during my college years. They’re still two of the best independent bookstores I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
Do we have a date yet for the next discussion? I finished the book and … I have thoughts
November 4th? Honestly pretty good with any date.
100% same for me
I haven’t dove into reading it yet, but I know I could finish by the 4th
Nov 4th works for me. I will say that depending on how the events of November 3 go, I’m either going to be murderously depressed or extremely relieved and happy, which probably means either way it’s a good time to think about the book instead of world politics…
I can probably do the 4th, will probably be in the same mental state as @greebs, and probably a little hungover regardless.
I think this one will have a lot of avenues for discussion.
That’s so soon!
I may have some issues getting a zoom account on the 4th (the people I mooch off of will be en route to the NIT). Does anyone else have access to an account?
November 4th works for me and Sarah I have an account
November 4th works for me and I also have a Zoom account!
Not a spoiler really - interesting take on the name Karen that hasn’t aged super great…
Should be an interesting one to discuss
Book was a quick read - read over the course of the weekend
If you’re interested in getting involved in a book club discussion would highly recommend diving in. It feels like the sort of book that requires being read in a book club setting. Lots of thoughts and questions and really looking forward to hashing it out on the 4th!
I haven’t been around much recently and my apologies. @Sarah, think it’s a quick enough read to get through this weekend?
Yes. I read it in the course of an afternoon
Guise, I’m woefully behind. Won’t make the 11/4 meeting but I did just finish “Eileen” this morning. Interesting book–I think I read it quickly not for enjoyment but rather to get to any plot twists at the end–which left me a tad wanting. I want to go back through the thread to see if others have given thoughts.
How far behind?
3.5 hours behind at least
Completion points have to count for a lot when it comes to reading. Kudos for sticking with it.
Was a great in depth discussion as always; not sure our thoughts made it into the thread. One take away I strongly remember was the concept of unreliable narration. How much was reshaped by when the narrator tells the story and how much was it twisted?
Curious to know some of your general thoughts on the book as I’m sure others would be happy to chime in to help make your completion worthwhile.
