Jeffersonville’s website says that they’re only booking foursomes right now.

Might be a good place for an NLU meetup at some point

I’d be down. Anyone have weekdays available? I’m trying to avoid the weekend slow play slog (and 2x greens fees at J’ville)

I called the other day about a single time. They had them, but it was at like 4:45. Didn’t want my first time out there to be a sprint.

2pm weekend walking at $33 ain’t too shabby

Definitely not, I just figured you had to be quick on the trigger to nab one of those.

I was able to get out twice last week. First time was a 9:00 AM tee time on Saturday morning. They charged $65 to ride and $47 to walk. I also played Tuesday at 3:30 and was charged $39, wanting to finish 18, everyone got their own cart. I love Jeffersonville and the course was in great shape. Just an FYI, there is a temporary green on the second hole.

Have 2 spots available at Jeffersonville on Memorial Day at 4:24pm if anyone is available? @samba24 and I are already playing but if anyone else wants in let us know.

I’m playing golf in a few hours so I can’t ask my wife right now, but if these are still available after I’m done, I could be interested.

Anybody want to hit up Jeffersonville next Saturday afternoon? I see some 3pm tee times on there.

I live in the Cleveland area now having moved for work in late 2018 but I grew up in Bucks County PA and lived in in Fairmount / Art Museum neighborhood in Philly for several years after I came back to PA from my college days. Caught the golf bug around the same time as 3 of my high school friends and we frequented the public offerings in the Philly, Bucks County, and South Jersey area quite a bit for years.

The Bucks Club was one of our regular stops. Not very walkable with the two very distinct 9’s (I believe the back was built later and winds through housing developments with long walks between holes and some solid elevation changes). That being said I very much enjoy the course as it is often in good condition, has decent facilities, and offers some fun holes that I would say ere toward the target golf side of things. As I’ve found since moving to Northeast Ohio you get less value for your money at a lot of the public offerings in the greater Philly area but I think that’s just the rub of the green.

A few other recommendations I’d make in the same area are Northampton Valley CC, similar type of idea to the Bucks Club. Not going to blow you away but a fun day with some fun holes. If you’re willing to venture a little further outside the city one of the gems of public golf in my mind in the area is Makefield Highlands. Plays host to USGA local qualifying, is always in fantastic shape with maybe the best public practice facilities I’ve seen and a whole host of challenging tee options, mix of fun driveable par 4’s, long brute par 4’s/5’s, gettable 5’s, interesting par 3’s, everything you could want all on nice rolling former farmland. 5 minutes from there across the river in NJ is Mountain View Golf Club. Offers some cool quirk with dual opening par 5’s and a good challenge thereafter. Pennsauken across the river from Philly in NJ I’ve always enjoyed and has some fun and stout holes, including a super long downhill par 3 that if you have a par putt on I commend you! The stalwarts like Jeffersonville and LuLu that others have mentioned and you can get on without a membership are great as well but I’m trying my hand at giving some of the other courses northeast of Philly their due.

Some also-rans I’ll mention that have a special place for me since they are where I played a ton as I got started with the game are Neshaminy Valley CC (stone’s throw from the Bucks Club), Middletown CC, and Bensalem CC. Neshaminy has trouble keeping the course in good condition and it is a short little par 70 but I played there a ton with my dad and would be remiss not mentioning it. Middletown is short as well and the tee boxes could use Bosley let’s say but I defy you to come off of some of those greens not titillated by some of the challenge they offer. Bensalem is a sneaky good little narrow target golf course that will test your precision.

I could do a whole treatise on the NJ shore courses as I do a trip with those same buddies I started playing these lower Bucks courses with annually but that’s a story for another day. I hope you check some of these places out!

But how do you feel about the Cleveland golf? Please tell me you’re a regular at Fowler’s Mill

I love it! As I alluded in my post on the Bucks County PA publics, you get insane value for the greens fees in the Cleveland area. I’m sorry to say I have yet to play Fowler’s as it’s a bit of a hike for me being on the West Side but the continued references to it mean I have to get out there! As for where I’m often playing here now, Springvale Golf Course is the de facto home course now as it is insanely close to where I live, never had a course in this close of proximity. Gray Hawk, Forest Hills, Shale Creek, Sleepy Hollow, Big Met, Manakiki, Sweetbriar Legacy, and this little neighborhood course Creekwood (sneaky one of the best grass ranges around but don’t blow it up!) are the usual haunts now. For the “expensive” $40-50 you pay for a place like Gray Hawk it would easily be in the $70-80 range were it in the area I’m from. I know there’s a ton of other great courses in Ohio as well and I’ve played some in the Columbus and Dayton areas as I travel for work (COVID has nixed that for the time being) but always looking for recommendations. Shoutout to Boulder Creek as well, incredible course I saw on one of my drives from the turnpike and knew I had to get there.

Nice man, I grew up in Cleveland and was there for a while, and don’t appreciate what we had until I was gone… now in NYC / Philly, and yeah your dollar goes a long way in cleveland. If you’re driving to Manakiki, take the extra 20 min to get to Fowler’s Mill, and just be sure to book Lake / River, and yeah thank me later. Enjoy!

Sorry to make the Philly chat about Cleveland guise! Anyone wanna play In south jersey this weekend?

Absolutely will do. The fiancee and I want to be back east for when kids wind up coming but for the time being we’re enjoying the Midwestern hospitality and COL while we’re here.

Play Scotland Run if you haven’t, just did the trifecta of ACCC, Ballamor, and Scotland Run on my trip with my buddies last weekend and they’re in great shape and Scotland Run is a challenging track I’ve loved both times I’ve played it. I’ll also second the apology on the off-topic deviation haha.

Yeah Scotland run is my go to (currently with in laws who live close-ish) and want to make it to ACCC this summer

How was ACCC? Heading there Saturday afternoon.

It was awesome. Beautiful property you just feel good pulling up to and seeing unfold. If you’re the type to get there early and get a nice warm up in there’s no better place in my experience to do it, cool 2-sided range, nice short game area and a sprawling practice green with the unique quirk of flowing right into the first tee. On the front you get a taste of the bay but a little more inland themed before some nice views and cool tee shots from the marshy area on the back with the full views of AC. Had one of my tougher rounds of the trip we did but I don’t think the course is overly difficult, certainly not long. Wind can be a factor though. The best part had to be catching it on a rare tee time app deal, it’s worth the full price of admission but helped us work it in getting it at a little discount.

If I wanted to watch the world burn here I might mention that I was there the day Lurch from the Foreplay pod was there, he was a couple groups behind us…
