PGA 2K25 Refuge Tour - Info in post 152 - S25 starts 3/23/2025

Yeah I jumped straight into a round and was quite confused, I don’t think there was a notice or anything

That is one of the things that definitely needs tuning. Like, I get it if they have a minimum number of events they want you to play, or you have to play the Sig events or something, but like, dude, I just won 2 in a row, I’m skipping mule-fest before a sig event because I can’t be bothered

Apparently today’s update has made the game a touch harder, making it harder to get a straight up and down swing via shot shaping.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed this. I swear I started to get a feel for it and now I’m hooking every iron shot :upside_down_face:

Excited to get in on this over the weekend in between the basketball/soccer games and a birthday party or two.

Yep, they did update the shot types a bit and how manipulating the curve/strike makes it more difficult to hit. Honestly, that was needed. The spinner shot shouldn’t have been able to be hit from 9 yds, now the minimum is something that makes more sense to get enough club head speed.

The VC did need some rebalancing since I do agree it was being earned at a rate that was a tad too easy, but they went too far. We will hold out hope that HB Studios can fix this, and that Take-Two doesn’t put their thumb on the scale any more than they clearly already have.

Welcome to the Refuge and hope to see you on the Refuge Tour, @ATrain!

Sorry for not reading through all the messages I’m sure there’s instructions somewhere. Is it cool if I just join the NLU Refuge Tour or do I need to do anything else outside of the game? My PSN is GolferGarza

Join the society in game for now and feel free to play the test events! Feedback on the difficulty settings is also welcome.

We do our own thing with flighted tournaments, which isn’t supported within the game. In the coming days I will have an info post that goes up in this thread with all the details, including a probable start date for our next full season. Seasons for us typically go 10 weeks, with each event taking 1 week.

I’ll have a Google Sheet available for sign ups and all the score/flight tracking.

Awesome, thanks for organizing. Sounds like a ton of fun. I’m a pretty casual player, so I like the sound of the flight events. I’ll keep an eye out.

That’s the whole goal, just something fun to do adjacent to the game and you don’t have to be a super serious player to compete. TGCTours is the place for that, here we compete for the real prize, The Butt Cup.

Love the sound of the Butt Cup, we should try and get the winner of the Butt cup announced on the Nest Pod, some real stakes :stuck_out_tongue:

I love that idea, I’ll drop a line to Casey once we get close to wrapping the first iteration on 25. You don’t have to be in the Nest to compete on the Tour though! As far as I know this thread is still outside the paywall so all are welcome

Please allow me to be a little piss baby for a second after 26 ish holes.

I don’t mind the difficulty, in fact, I think I’ll come to like it. It’s nice to feel rewarded for a really good swing, something I don’t think golf games have ever really had.

But I really do not understand the swing feedback in the slightest. It looks almost the same every time, but the outcome is a total crapshoot.

I’m not saying these were good drives, or even consistent drives, but here are my last two:

There was probably 70 yards between these two balls. And the problem I have is they felt like the exact same swing (I am aware they were not). But when I look at these swings, I’m not even sure what to improve. It’s just ‘yeah, okay, that was bad.’

I don’t know. I am finding a bit of a groove and a learning curve doesn’t mean it’s bad by any means, I’m just not sure what I’m actually learning.

/end piss baby rant

edit

I also seem to have encountered some sort of glitch where every once in a while the controls for my putt strength and line flip. Up is down, down is up. Anyone else having this? Seems to mainly happen on long putts.

I also had an extremely frustrating evening of playing yesterday so I’m glad others had the same struggles…

@xthrubyx, I think Jeff_M is much more dialed into the settings / progress than I am, but I think the “answer” to your question is that there is a higher variance to outcomes when you have lower XP. As you continue to progress, the results should be more consistent.

Though I agree, it’s definitely frustrating and there are definitely issues with short game. Chipping is just completely abysmal and sometimes I truly have no idea where a chip is going regardless of how well I hit it.

I like the idea of progression in my literal skill and my golfers virtual skill being important, so that’s cool with me. I just don’t really understand the feedback at this juncture.

I will say, however, after my piss baby rant I played a bit more and not over swinging seems to be very, very important. However now I have left several shots like 30 yards short.

I hate to be this guy, especially on this board, but I am legitimately a better golfer in real life at this juncture. And I’m positive I would rather put this time into my real game, than this one. But I’m hoping to come around a bit and sign up for the society soon.

Looking forward to finally diving in tonight, didn’t have time to play this week so didn’t preorder.

Progression wise what seems to be best to focus on leveling up?

I’m no expert on the new version but one thing I saw was that after you get one character above a certain OVR rating then any new chars you create can be auto 85. So the limiting factor so far seems to be the VC so don’t waste VC on multiple characters.
