PGA 2K23 Refuge Tour - Info Post #9562 - S24 Begins 11/25

I feel like some one has had to have tired this…that said. I’ll put it on the to-do list

Keep in mind I have like 3 local PNW LiDAR courses on that same list

It’s been around in the 2K games, I believe this is supposed to be the recreation of the OG Predator. We played it way back in Season 9 of the Tour. I’d have to look up video or photos or the original to see the comparison though

Yep confirmed this is the faithful recreation, found an old YouTube video showing hole-by-hole of the OG.

This course hosting the dumpster fire is SICK. Is this a RCR or imaginary?

It is sadly fictional. It was created as an entry to the TGCTours Major Design Challenge, the goal was to create a course worthy of hosting a major championship with no other restrictions.

This little underpass thingy was so cool to see in the game!

The scoreboard is one of my personal favorite touches (the designer’s handle is Heisenberg, in case it wasn’t obvious)

I didn’t notice the names, but I was gonna comment that the DNFs felt appropriate for this course. Very nice touch.

Those 4 rounds felt like the last episode of Breaking Bad.

Holy cow.

Bump this. I felt like I had to play super defensively the whole time. There were a few holes where I had no clue how to hit the fairway with 20+ mph crosswind.

Love these setups though. Fun stuff

Did Mr. @Tibbs find a way to hack the game and turn the wind off? That’s some damn good playing! All the C-Suite scores over par is wild stuff

Haha I can assure you my only hacking is done out on the actual course. For whatever reason I tend to play better in events with tougher conditions. As far as wind goes, I’ve found that shaping it into the wind will get the ball to land softer (but will also take some yardage off). Just gotta get a feel for how much to adjust.

What a nightmare; +57. If you want to feel better about your round, and on PS, add my ghost. Do believe this is what I would score in the real.

The Dumpster Fire - WEEK 10 UPDATE

And with that the regular season has come to a conclusion. Pretty wild that this has been going since early 2020 with only one brief break, and we’re still getting a lot of good participation, so thank you!

A note on the Dumpster Fire event, and other events for that matter, the goal is always to be tough, but fair. If you notice an impossible pin location or something that doesn’t seem right, please bring that to my attention. I do play test the courses prior to determining the settings, so if I miss an angle into a pin or something, I want to know so I can improve my testing process. Generally if a course is TGCTours approved it already went through a test there but we may be using different settings and things could get unwieldy without my knowing. Despite the ongoing bit about Raul from Parks and Rec being the player liaison for the Tour, I do genuinely want everyone to have fun and for this to not be a drag to play events.

Individual flight winners:

  • Young Hitters: @BlakeG is the only player to break -20 under and gets to -28 to win.
  • C-Suite: @PullFade nearly got there with a score of -19, and the only player to finish under par in C-Suite
  • Strapped: @Tibbs also with the only under par score in Strapped
  • LPCP: @snaphookleft never let the big numbers in and got it around in near enough to level par to come out on top

Regular Season Points Race Winners

*note here, if you notice an error in your points table please let me know. I went through it and think I caught any cells that weren’t calculating points, but please call any others out

  • @BlakeG wins for the YH flight, really no surprises there but there was some promising competition from the rest of the flight
  • @valleyslice was in contention more often than not and takes the C-Suite title
  • @jeffvalois wasn’t the winning juggernaut but scored solid points and several podium finishes to get it done for Strapped
  • @mlakota never won less than 100 points in an event and claims the top spot for LPCP.

Now, we have an off-week and I am going to be calculating handicaps for the Butt Cup.

  • This is a full field event which is handicapped based on season performance (strokes gained).
  • In order to qualify, you must have played in a minimum of 6 events if you played the two majors, 7 events with 1 major, or 8 events with no majors. This requirement is to meet the minimum number of rounds to calculate your handicap.

Stand by for an update once the field is set and handicaps are calculated.

Thanks as always for playing here on the Refuge Tour

Wondering if we couldn’t consider making the swinging slightly easier for those of us who play 3-4 rounds per week? Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t feel like it would make the Young Hitters flight at all (maybe 1-2 strokes lower) and I think it would make a huge difference for Strapped and LPCP. I haven’t posted a score in a few seasons because I can’t stop the red fasts and red slows, but I do enjoy playing the courses on my own with my own settings.

I think we had tested back when 2K23 first launched and landed on Pro swing difficulty with timing on. I’m not opposed to revisiting that though, I’d like to get a couple test events in the off season and we can play them with Am and Pro settings and see how it goes. (I think Amateur is the step below Pro?)

I do know we tried to play with swing timing off before with Master swing difficulty (so tighter on the dispersion but no fast/slow to worry about) and the consensus was swing timing on is better.

I could be completely in the minority, but I literally don’t play anymore because of red fast/red slow. I can swing as fast as I can both ways, and can get a red slow result. Just speaking up in case others in the Strapped/LPCP flights agree.

I did buy a new controller yesterday, so maybe that will fix the issue, but it’s completely unpredictable for me.

I always wonder how the best players are possibly so good at this shit. I get fast or slow on like 99% of my swings, even when I’m frequently calibrating. And there are rounds where any shot that isn’t 100% power will almost always get a Very Fast and come up miles short of the target. I just have no idea how anyone does this shit consistently. I even moved my career settings to mirror the ones we use for this, and I just always have a handful of shots per round where the game seems to go totally haywire for me

Let me know what your results are with the new controller. Stil on Xbox, right? It could be worth trying to do the swing calibration in your case, more info here if you’re curious.

*Note that swing calibration might or might not be the move, details in the video

I’m on Xbox, and I’ve done the calibration, no dice.

Appreciate what you are doing with the Refuge Tour, so not complaining. Just throwing it out there for discussion since it’s the off-season. I’ve spoke with fellow members of the tour, and we would like to formally submit the following:

Haha! For sure though, I’m open to testing different settings to try to make the game more enjoyable for more players. I think a couple test events are in order, my initial thought is to play a course that we’ve played either this season or last, get as many participants as we can, then I can compare scores to what we saw in the Tour event at the same venue, with the same course conditions. Same as your thoughts, I’m hoping it doesn’t impact the top players too much, but if it can reduce the field spread I’m all for it.
