Everything on ps5 is a fast swing for me 9 holes in.

So after a week of playing I feel like I’m almost back to where I was in 2k21. I think this game puts more of an emphasis on being in the fairway and staying below the hole. Short game is much harder but it’s not impossible. The video @mctrees02 posted about how fittings and skills work was probably the most useful information for how to set up your golfer and equipment to play well

My only complaint so far is the bunkers. I really don’t understand the technique needed. There seems to be no way to actually get the ball out without it running way too far.

I feel like bunker play is pretty similar, but a little harder like the rest of the short game stuff. But go very fast or very slow, and you aren’t getting out.

Jumped into the NLU Refuge Tour on Xbox last night.

Was horrified to find triple-click discrimination going on. Promptly fired an 88 using the swing stick (never used it before).

Things started to make sense on the back 9. Putting is definitely easier with the swing stick.

Excited to unintentionally sandbag the next two rounds as I try to figure out the swing stick.

The way I figured out how to beat the greenside bunkers was to find my groove with the chipping tempo and chip out of them. Although the tempo for chipping seems to be pretty much the same for splash and flop shots.

If you can chip out (shallow-ish bunker), I’d do it. If it’s a deeper bunker, I’ve found flop is more forgiving on timing than splash. To get a flop or splash to stop in a reasonable amount of time you have to pull all the way back on backspin and increase loft (which makes it easier to mess up, go fast/slow, and leave it in the bunker, of course).

The ball rolls out way too much on those shots, the number of times I’ve hit an innocent splash shot and had it roll 80 feet off the green is too high (which is dumb because the bunker splash technique in Real Life Golfā„¢ is generally the technique for spinning the ball rather than having it run out, but I’m not convinced the designers actually play golf).

Also, at least on Xbox, putting from the fringe is very broken and comes out about double speed so definitely chip from the fringe until they fix that.

I thought I was the only one - putting from the fringe is CRAZY. I’ve been aiming to hit them like 60% of the way (on PS5)

100% the staying below the hole thing. Noticed downhill putts being slippery as hell in this new game

Standard setup with the splash is a chunk and run. Go all the way down with the left and right sticks on the shot manipulator

When you are on the green, the putting marker adjusts for the slope on the green (at least on pro it does. Haven’t messed around on harder difficulties yet). When on the fringe, it does NOT make an adjustment for the green. It just sets it up for the distance to the hole. You have to move the marker as it would a putt.

*Moving the putter marker closer/farther adjusts the sensitivity of the power meter when putting always

I assumed it was just adjusting the distance meter as if you had fringe all they way between your ball and the hole, but because it turns to Green after a foot, the power is way off.

It’s possible I’ve just been above the hole everytime I’ve been putting from the fringe… I am above the hole a LOT

Maybe. I gotta test more tonight. But the last point still stands. If you’re having trouble hitting downhill putts soft enough, pull the marker back a couple/few feet, even from what it sets you up for on the green

Won my first tour event in my career mode and my rival Rickie shakes my hand on the last green. Might be the most realistic part of the game

Everything inside of a 100 yards is infinitely harder. I do like the game play better though. So far it’s fun, I am grinding in the KFT and I am having fun.

So what I’m hearing is you all want PGA West with very high winds on repeat for this next season?

So I just got the new game and I literally can’t hit a perfect shot. Not even chipping. Anyone else having issues with this? Playing with kb/m.

Yes. We all are. Welcome. Welcome to hell.

it’s insane… like I literally haven’t seen a single perfect shot in 5 hours of play. Is it better with a controller?
