PGA 2K23 Refuge Tour - Info Post #9562 - S24 Begins 11/25

How on earth are you putting like 30 footers with the swing meter off? Legit asking the technique.

It took a lot of practice, and on longer putts I take two or three practice takeaways to get to the right vibration spot now I have a pretty good feel for it. I found that I was putting better without the swing meter on short to medium putts, so I just turned it off full time.

The first 3 games in the series never even had a swing meter or vibration. It was all feel baby

TIL I learned about swing vibration.

Imagine trying to play this game without swing vibration AND a swing meter.

That’s what we did for years before 2K got involved and had to make it approachable for all the filthy casuals

Meter on putting only is the only way to play. I’ve played this way forever and tried putting it on in 2K23 and it completely messed me up. It also looks like it has to be on (or I can’t figure out to turn it off) during online matches and I don’t like it.

PS4 Players: I just set up the society. ā€œNLU Refuge Tourā€. No events yet but we should have some practice events later this week.

This video is a great explainer on how to implement the skills and fittings to build your player without spending a ton of VC.

I do not endorse the stupid YouTube screenshots on any of his videos though

Dammit, now I’m going to have to buy this game.

Does anyone else play PC with mouse and keyboard? Or am I the only idiot who does that?

I’ve always used a playstation controller, I think I tried mouse swinging once back when it was The Golf Club and was horrible at it, never tried again. Do you find it easier than controller?

Non-sarcastic question: How? are you ā€œSwingingā€ by moving your mouse down then up?

I made the (apparently terrible?) choice to start in Q-school in my career. Using the proposed settings we’re going to be using for these tour, I am getting my ass handed to me on the regular and am now stuck playing these same few Korn Ferry tour tournaments that I can’t place in to be able to move up a tour.

The most insulting part is, I feel like the course sets ups are impossible, or maybe the ā€œnormalā€ ball is just purposefully impossible to play some courses with. Even when I hit good shots and land in the spot I wanted to…the ball rolls just far enough past the pin, or catches just the wrong hill to completely eject me into an edge of the green, and then I’m chipping, and there’s like a 50/50 chance the same thing happens, where it doesn’t keep quite enough spin and I end up with a 10 footer for par that’s breaking 3 feet.

Yeah, you drag the mouse back then hit a button for power. Or on the harder difficulty, you have to push the mouse back up for accuracy.

I haven’t actually tried a controller yet. I have a PS4, but I’ve been playing PC golf since the early 90’s with the Links games. I have played some games with a controller, TW and some of the Mario varieties. Just not PGA yet.

What archetype are people generally going with?

Is it just me or are the bunkers ridiculously hard?

The timing on the downswing is what gets me. Most shots are not full power so it makes it very tricky. Very Fast is definitely in play, I’ve left plenty of shots in the sand so far with that miss.

I’ve been in the lab prepping for a triumphant return to league life - and this has been my biggest hang up so far.

I went 73-74-82-85 in the KF Tour opener and I’m confident that real golf might be easier at this point

I’ll have 2 test events set for this week, I will send a link to a spreadsheet later this evening once I have courses and settings. We’ll see what scores look like, this will help us decide on what direction to go with the settings.

I’ll be gone on vacation for a week starting tomorrow so I won’t be able to monitor very closely right away, but will certainly check back in in a few days.

Like many of you I am struggling to find a groove with the new game, my best rounds are a few under par so far. I’ve tried both Master and Pro difficulty, and my feeling is that Pro with swing timing turned on is still a decent sweet spot.

These are the proposed difficulty settings (Open means that it can be turned on/off by the player):

Again, I will post a spreadsheet later this evening with the test event settings and a place to post scores
