PGA 2K23 Refuge Tour - Info Post #9562 - S24 Begins 11/25

I have a 2 round no tempo society called NTT Tours (Legend) and we haven’t had stupid low scores there. We do push the limits on course setups sometimes to compensate for the no tempo…so hopefully we’ll do the same thing on Refuge Tour and put out some scummy pins here and there.

I have been in the wilderness with PGA 2k21 (or more accurately, playing a lot of real life golf, where I am also in the wilderness but that’s neither here nor there) but the change of schedule might make it more realistic for me to get the 3 rounds in. The update kind of ruined it for me as well.

So with that said, what do I need to do to jump back in? Just play the latest event in the society and enter a score as a qualifier?

That would be the most ideal scenario. I believe it ends tomorrow.

About to jump on a potentially long and boring Teams call so will try get it done today.

Playing during long meetings where I didn’t have to engage much was my modus operandi during the pandemic

I would rather have scummy pins here and there rather than every single round with 15-20 mph wind.

Chalk me up as someone who would vote against scummy pins. I feel like the difference between the better flights (YH, C-Suite) and the lower flights is putting. Scummy pins is just going to turn off the lower tier players like myself.

One course setup for four flights is tough. What challenges the top top flights the most is putting…what challenges the lower flights the most is navigating wind/elevation to get the ball in the fairway and on the green.

I’m fully on board with making it as easy as possible. There is a ceiling on scores. There is no floor. The harder you make it the more it affects the lower tiers. There is a limit of how low you can go. There is no limit on how high you can go.

You said it better than I tried to. If we’re making changes to make the game easier and more enjoyable, why stop it at a certain level. Just make it easy for all.

Have you tried playing a few rounds with the swing timer off? It makes the game a whole lot easier when it comes to approaches & drives. I think the scores are going to be way more similar from flight to flight than before, so the deciding factor might come down to tougher conditions.

Would be so cool if everyone was roughly the same level and we could remove flights and just do one massive leaderboard.

I think the more people play with these settings it will get closer to that.

I’ll say this regarding your effort in organizing all of this and managing the spreadsheet, flights, and promotions and relegations. Everyone hates you, and you’re doing a terrible job.

I will say, if we get to a point where there are no flights I’m going to completely redo and jazz up the event leaderboards.

One thing about the new settings is that I can actually do partial pitch shots again, which is absolutely huge. Probably a bigger difference maker for me than avoiding the random short driver swings. I can feel the game being more fun already.

I haven’t had problems with swing timing personally. I might be the only one that these new changes didn’t affect. I’ve played with Young Hitter ghosts, and the biggest difference between me (Strapped B) and them is putting. I guess I assumed that was across the board.

I’m only going to partially yuck the yums of the lovefest that’s currently happening on the new settings. SO, the working theory is the game is now easier for the lower flights, and there may be less disparity between flights? Are we sure that YH and top tier C-Suite aren’t just now going to shoot -15 every round?

I’m not sure why it would get easier for the lower flights, and not crazy easy for the higher flights.
