I’ve tried like hell to be optimistic about it, but there’s zero consistency to the swing timing now. I’ll have it grooved for one or two holes max, then it’ll be 5 straight holes of red fasts and slows, even though I know I’m swinging relatively the same.

it’s similar to when the game launched and there was no rhyme or reason to red fasts and slows

Personally, I love having more than driver into a par 4 because of a red fast drive

Did some test playing on Pro Am and it’s just way too easy with the larger distance control bar.

Might try no tempo and master next.

This might be a good answer and help bridge the PS/Xbox gap all at once

Ok so turning swing timing off and switching to master is kind of a revelation. Everything comes down to swing path and distance control.

Would like some of the tour stalwarts to test this out as well to see what they think.

Sure I’ll try

I wish there was a way to leave timing on for normal swings and maybe pitch shots, but off for splashes and flops, but oh well. The NTT setup is very playable.

NTT is legendary right? I tried that for 9 holes but swing plane was fucking me pretty good.

Yeah, and it’s set up with the swing meter off, which makes distance pretty tough on less than full swings. I think putting will be a struggle for people that are used for the swing meter. Takes a while to get used to. I’m down to about one four putt per round in TGCT events.

You can keep the meter on for putting. I’d leave it on for all shots though

I just tested a round two ways at Muirhead Plantation.

Front 9…legend, no swing timing, no meter
Back 9…master, no swing timing, meter on for putting

My initial takeaway would be legend w/ no swing timing and meter on for putting. If the meter is on for every swing, then we’re back to playing ā€œput the aiming point on the spotā€ and hit your mark. Also, having the swing meter on for full swings with master/legend is, IMO, more distracting than helpful.
Learning to feel out a few different partial swing distances (full, less than full, partial) is probably easier than trying to hit a tiny white box of 85, 87 or 90% on the meter and then constantly feeling like a failure when you dont hit the white. With the meter off for full swings, you try to swing your club the appropriate distance and live with the result rather than seeing ā€œwell that sucks I missed the exact percentage I needed to hit there.ā€

Once you turn off swing timing, you are removing the big miss off the tee so we’ll no longer have driver, and ā€œOS my driver can’t reach the greenā€ on long par 4’s anymore.

I kind of disagree. With the meter off for full swings, I just felt like it was impossible to hit partial shots so resorted to only hitting full shots which made me hate short game shots

Here’s a video on how far offline you can get your swing misses with master and legend. Ignore me mumbling…I didnt have my mic on and was really just talking to myself as I tried to hit a few different types of swing path errors.

I went through 100, 200, and 300y shots on both master and legend. For reference, the porta potties are set in 10y increments from the flagsticks.

Hitting partial swings with the meter off is a matter of feel. Some players feel it in how ā€œlongā€ they swing the club back, some feel it through speed/transition, and some even try to feel it through player animation. I mainly try to feel out the length of the backswing other than my ā€œdumpyā€ pitch (it’s a chunk and run with about 65-75% power) which I hit from about 15-20y and I feel that distance out from the player animation.

For short game on TGCT, my stock shots off a fairway lie are:

15-20y carry - dumpy pitch (or maybe a SW to 9i chip depending on elevation and runout)
22-25y carry - LW splash
26-30y carry - SW splash
31-39y carry - GW splash
40-45y carry - LW flop
46-50y carry - SW flop
51-55y carry - GW flop or 8i splash depending on runout
56-65y carry - LW pitch
66-75y carry - SW pitch
76-85y carry - GW pitch
85-100y carry - full LW

With all of those shots beyond dumpy pitch, I’m aiming to land around 100% power and I’ll use loft/spin adjustments to add/remove a few yards based on what the green/pin location offer.

Why are we testing legend and master settings when the game is already too hard with the current settings?

Maybe it’s because the Refuge Tour is the only Pro settings I play, but I think the game’s updates impacted the master tours far more. I can barely play the TGCTours anymore.

Played a round with Master and swing timing off, and it has a feel like the game used to have before HB messed it up. No red misses, and much more feel-based.
