It’s probably not any more terrible than a lot of public offerings in the area. It has no driving range as I recall, so I certainly won’t be going there to practice, but I’m about a minute from Downer Grove Golf Course which appears to have a decent range. But I played it a day after playing 36 holes in West Lafayette (Coyote Crossing and the Kampen Course from the tips), and drove the ball arguably as well as I ever have. So it really sucked to play a course that constantly takes driver out of your hands. As the name implies, there is a fair amount of water, which means forced carries and even worse, forced lay ups. But if that’s not enough, there’s a hole where you don’t have to cross water, a straight par 5, with just a big patch of random rough right in the landing zone. Look at this shit:
Yeah, but Black Rock probably has legit terrain that makes some of that area unplayable maybe? Never played it, but at least there’s some land movement there. At Seven Bridges, the area where the rough is plunges to a depth of roughly 10-12 inches below the level of the fairway.
Ha! Played Seven Bridges many times, and every time we finished we were like, “why did we just spend $100 for that?” 10th hole is the one above - “island” fairway, only like ~475 par 5 with your sphincter clenched on every shot.
I’d recommend Downers Grove Golf Course. It’s been a few years but I remember it as a good 9-hole track. There’s a lot of history there - I think it was CB MacDonald’s first design or something like that.
The property at DG was the original Chicago Golf Club before they moved it and built the current course in Wheaton, so the land is historic. Not sure what remains of the original routing. I’ve played it a couple times before, once a few months ago when we had no idea we’d be living so close. The range borders the school that my kid will be going to. I can drive there in less than 90 seconds. Looking forward to getting some work done this summer, at least until kid #2 arrives.
Apologies for my laziness but just saw that PGA 2K21 was on sale at the Microsoft store and was thinking of pulling the trigger on it. Can I get a quick rundown of what these seasons mean?
So really you need to join the society on the game, play the currently scheduled tournament when you’re ready, and post your scores in the spreadsheet under “Qualifying.” From there we will put you in a flight and then you can continue playing the events and posting scores.
Ha, that already happens on COD:WZ but it’ll be nice to have yet another game frustrate me. Thanks for the heads up and thank you @JBors for the helpful response. I’m sold, see ya’ll out there.
If you have never played the game before, there is a bit of a learning curve. However, that is why we have flights, so if you want to dive in head first that is ok too!
I have kind of found my groove with pitch shots. For whatever reason I almost never can get a fast swing with a pitch shot, so I just swing at a rate that “feels” fast and it is ending up perfect every time.
