I mean, Mr. Player obviously hates Chambers Bay due to the lack of trees on the property.
MAJOR UPDATE: MARCH 3RD
Ya know, I wish I didn’t have to have so many major updates… I’m starting to sound like CNN. Thanks to @LukeBoatright, he caught a major mistake.
Chambers Bay used to be on a 90 day tee time booking timeframe. With COVID, they adjusted it, and just recently, they bumped it back out to 90 days. Well, the worker in charge of adjusting the tee sheet forgot to block off groups that weren’t marked as booked yet. Our group wasn’t “booked” at the time as this was some time earlier in February, and as you know, the agreement on the hotel and it being “booked” was March 1st.
@LukeBoatright was looking around the tee sheet to see what the price would’ve been that day without the discount (don’t ask me why) and saw that our group didn’t have the tee times blocked off, and worse, that a couple tee times were sold already.
I had a call with the group coordinator at Chambers. He explained everything above, apologized, and made amends.
- The Saturday round at Chambers now has first group going off at 8am.
- To make up for their mistake, they are letting us block off replay rounds in advance^
^As mentioned before, normally replay is based on availability.
On the spreadsheet I posted yesterday, you’ll find a new column (so, if you’ve filled it out already, please revisit):
- Will you want to replay Chambers?
Please note that Chambers is not an easy walk. The group coordinator at Chambers has only set aside 40 spots cause it’s fairly common that people don’t want to replay/cancel a replay that day. He’ll bump it up if there are enough yeses, but he’s not dumb. You may end up collapsing like Jason Day at the US Open haha. Also, you still have the round Sunday to think about.
Hopefully, this is my last major update for awhile. Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Matt
@LukeBoatright is a gentleman, a scholar, and a tremendous caddie…90% of the time.
Me being an absolute idiot is what caused me to realize this oversight on their part. Which ends up working pretty well on our end…
So as I have to remind my wife every few days, its not always a bad thing that you married an idiot.
A couple of n00b questions… quota or tilt, and is there a difference? And can we calculate our proposed quota based on handicap prior to the event to help decide tees on each course, or is that scummy?
We are playing quota.
Tilt has the multiplier for net birdies. It can get really messy math-wise, especially with over 50 people participating. Quota does not have the multiplier.
Quota:
-
It starts with your course handicap. You subtract it from 36. Why 36? Cause if a scratch player has a par on every hole, it would equal 36 points. So, if you have a 10 handicap, your quota is 26 points.
-
The point structure below is the gross score on a hole.
Double Bogey+ = 0 points
Bogey = 1 pt
Par = 2 pts
Birdie = 4 pts
Eagle = 8 pts
Hole In One = 10 pts
Double Eagle = 12 pts -
The max score a player can have on a hole is gross (not net) double bogey, so it keeps up the pace!
Choosing the tee based on handicap is kinda scummy, but not against the rules. The spirit of allowing people to choose their tee is cause of the wide range of handicaps/skill levels.
Something something bad optics.
Say a guy decides to toss his hat in late and make the trek…what’s the going rate for Chambers and the replay round?
It’s $295 + tax for the 3 rounds. Broken down it is
$155 + tax for Chambers on Saturday.
$74 + tax for The Home Course on Friday.
$66 + tax for Gold Mountain (Olympic) on Sunday.
Love the guaranteed replay - thanks for negotiating that!
I was going to negotiate it, but the group coordinator at Chambers floated it first as a way to say sorry for the mess-up!
Get your complimentary Chambers replay while it’s hot!
@cqueen @Mattyeds @jasonnutter @JScore @Szyd @Phillip360 @OTPLefty @andrewcray @sub150 @westviewgolfer
I’m sure the group coordinator could hear you flexing the negotiation muscles and offered it first to stem the bleeding. Nice job!
@lazyjk @rabsie @richardlhawkes @davidc (you’ll need to tell Matt and Dom, too) @therealmarkymark @Mack @Oski @Springdog74 @The_CAD_Says @topflitetopper
@I_Have_the_Yips @tron @Brpryor22 @Paulie @JCO @catshannon @notjk @PeterBerquist @McDickey @luckin11
I mean I have to replay even if I die.
I imagine a similar situation that Neil was in after he played Metro having played Barnbougle earlier that morning.
Spot the difference. Oh wait, you can’t ![]()
Are tennis shoes the smart play if playing 36 at Chambers?
