Five trees on one hole!!!
Once again, this event was a home run. Congrats @jgolf1! The 2nd round saw a vicious alt shot battle amongst 5 groups, 3 of which were stupid enough to play an emergency 9 from the forward tees to further embarrass ourselves. Thanks to everybody who played today, let’s run it back next year!
Damn. I thought my 3 trees on one hole would take the cake. Impressive.
- Tee shot clips branch , lands amongst the trees
- Punch out hits tree goes backwards
- 2nd punch out hits tree goes backwards
- 7 iron to get over creek hits branch dies on same side.
- 3 wood to attack the hole clips branch right side of fairway.
A banner hole for me. It’s why I’m the arborist, and you aren’t, ha!
This is why I hate this course. Trees on trees on trees.
Honestly there could be half as many trees and it would be fine. I don’t hate the course but man can the trees really get you in trouble.
I want to take a minute while I lay here on a heading pad to try to loosen up my back to thank all of you for coming out yesterday (and extra shout out to those of you who came out for Friday). It’s really awesome to see so many people willing to come to Findlay to play golf, see our internet friends, and hopefully make some new ones. It was especially awesome to see so many new faces out there yesterday. None of this stuff works if we don’t have new folks coming in to fill in the fields, and seeing a shocking percentage of people saying it was their first event yesterday was so cool (also shout out to the local guy grinding on the range that asked me about the event, I hope to see you at the next one). Getting out there and playing some truly horrendous golf and still having a great time isn’t possible without an awesome group of people surrounding you and keeping the vibes high. I hope to see every one of you here again next year
I’d also like to give an extra shout to all of you who donated prizes for the raffle, and who bought tickets. I wanted to sell all of the tickets, but also wasn’t sure we’d even sell as many as we did. Our goal was to make sure everyone got to leave with some kind of prize or gift, and I think we got pretty close to it. If you did leave early and not get something, get with me and I’ll try to hook you up with something. We also raised a good amount of money for charity. We don’t have the final number yet, but between the RBR, and this event, I think it’s going to be a number we can be proud of.
I really do hope for the newer/less active members, this was a great experience that showed you how much fun it can be to go play golf with a group of total strangers. Don’t feel like you have to stick to lurking, #getinvolved, talk some shit, jump on tee times if someone offers them, make times of your own to offer up, organize some hangs, etc. Pretty soon, you might be getting together with internet friends instead of internet strangers, and I can say from first hand experience, there’s a whole lot of guys in our roost I’m very proud to have as my friends.
To steal a line from our (mostly) fearless leader…
I love you all
Unbelievable event.
Apologies I didn’t get to chat and spend time with everyone, but I’m incredibly thankful for the love and support.
T33 finish is sick too.
Love y’all!
To somewhat echo this, instead of driving in for the event and heading out after golf concluded, this year I stayed in Findlay both Friday and Saturday night. Sometimes it’s hard to justify a hotel stay only an hour and change from home, and barely 30 minutes from family. But this was the best decision I think I have made in the last 7 years. The amount of fun that was had on both Friday and Saturday nights somehow even exceeded the fun had at the golf course. Did it take 1-3 years off of my life? Maybe. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. I understand that not everyone has the freedom to be away from home for an entire weekend, but if you come to one of these events, think hard about logistics and the ability to take part in what I can almost guarantee will be an epic hang with some of the funniest, most genuine people you will ever meet. To everyone that took part in the clown show that was my weekend, a heartfelt thank you, and I hope to see you all very soon!
Hey all, working on the date for this for 2025. Would we prefer May 3, 17th or 24th.
Definitely not the 24th, because that’s Memorial Day weekend and a bunch of us will be at sweetens
Maybe coordinate with Matt from FCF to avoid booking on the same weekend, and then just go for whatever is going to work best
Good call!
Hey @Manhattan , I’m thinking of doing the Findlay event on May 3rd or the 17th. Do you have any input so we don’t overlap?
I had penciled out a calendar over here - if you do the 17th it might work slightly better for me (and keeping events spaced so guys can double dip if they choose), but I can make either weekend work. I’ll probably be April 12, May 3, May 17, or June 7 for our major, although actual date/location/etc. TBD
The later the better given the normal slow start to the season around here.
So if the 24th doesn’t work, I vote for the 17th.
I like the 17th also if that matters.
I’m totally on board for the 17th, I know that I can’t make the date work for everyone.
17th should be a go.
I am tentatively adding it to the family calendar. Have to stake a claim to dates as soon as possible.
I emailed the course today. 17th it is.
People are saying that is really the best date in May
