I realized I was reading the loser bracket wrong. I get the loser of @wreckhockey or @PlumbBobMillionaire. I am the true winner here

Earlier today, @Racole212 graciously agreed to work around my busy schedule to squeeze our match in at Beckett Ridge. What followed was a fun battle during a beautiful Saturday afternoon in late April.

I started the day alright, with a par and bogey good enough to take a 2 up lead through 2 holes. We pushed the next two as we both started to warm up, before I stretched the lead to 3 at the par 5 fifth.

Suddenly, the momentum shifted on a dime as @Racole212 played some great golf to capture the next 3 holes and even up the match. After regrouping, I got up and down for par at the 9th to go out 1 up. This new lead didn’t last long.

My opponent hit a beautiful shot on the par 3 tenth, leading to a par that again squared the match. I dug deep and ground out wins on 11, 12, and 13 to rebuild a three stroke lead. Heading to 14 with hopes of continuing this trend, I proceeded to hook my tee shot directly into the water and watch my opponent play some sensible golf shots to get one back.

The next three hole stretch was crucial. I did just enough to keep pace as we halved all three, which led to me closing things out 2&1. I had a really fun time playing with @Racole212 and look forward to the next time we tee it up together!

@waver82 and I got out to his home club at Oberlin yesterday for a match. Nick is always a great host and we had surprisingly good conditions after a Friday drenched in rain. We started off with matching bogeys on the first and I went on to win the next 5 holes after some poor driving from Nick. He rallied back to get it to 3 down at the turn but I kept a consistent course management plan and ended up closing out the match 6&4. Nick did not have his normal steady play but as always was a fun playing partner. Overall great day.

@cstevens3407 and I played our match this morning at Shaker Run. Shoutout to @Racole212 for booking the tee time and making sure I never left a wedge around the green! Great company, I really enjoyed the round!

I got off to a fast start, winning the first two holes with pars. Corey battled back to get it all square through five. I was 2-up going into nine and feeling good, proceeded to dump an 8i into the lake and Corey kept the pressure on with a bogey save; I made the turn 1-up.

Corey got it back to square through 11, I won the next two and then hung-on for dear life. Went dormie on #17 and I made a 3 footer for a 3-putt bogey on #18 to win 1-up. A back and forth match that could have gone either way.

I was 1-down on the 18th tee but I’d already said to my wife and friends beforehand “I have to win before 18 if I’m going to win” after some pre-round course planning. I was so intimidated by this hole as a lefty whose miss is left

I hit such a good drive. I thought I was in position to extend the match and figure out what we’d do for a chip-off or ask to play another hole.

I put my second shot in the water as I’d deathly feared the night before.

Was the closest/best match I’d played to date. @mharp golfed his ball.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of playing my second round match with @AZacOfAllTrades at National Golf Links. We were also joined by @JDR9 for a beautiful Sunday morning. The match started off hot with Zac making a 30 footer for birdie on the second hole to go up 1.

I then won the next few holes to get to 2 up, and ended up being 1 up heading into the back 9. After 2 great shots onto 11 green by Zac and I, we went to the 12th tee with me still holding a 1 hole lead. Personally, every semi-truck on I70 was in play the entire hole, as it felt like no one wanted to win that hole. On the Par 3 13th, I hit the pin on my chip shot and the ball rested on the lip for par. Zac had a great up and down to keep the me only 1 up.

I then went to win the 14th to get to 2 up. on 15, Zac made a great par on a hole where a large tree was guarding any shot from the right side of the fairway to the green. Big Randy would’ve loved this hole.

Standing on 16, I was still 2 up with 3 to play. After 2 great irons off the tee, and 2 great wedge shots to the green, it was a putting contest to try and close the match. Zac had a tough uphill put that just went by, while I had just a tap in for par to win 3&2.

Absolute perfect Sunday morning for golf! Loved every minute of playing with @AZacOfAllTrades and @JDR9 . Looking forward to the next round!

I don’t envy Max’s opponent in the next round. He put on a short game clinic yesterday that I couldn’t keep up with. As someone who struggles with the putter, it was truly aspirational shit.

Also the provocative tee height with his driver on the holes into the fan :heart_eyes:

Had the privilege of getting out to Painesville CC last night with @spicychimis, shepherded by @jack67 for our first 9. We played a pretty even front 9. I was able to capitalize on a wayward tee ball on 9 by Steve to claw back to all square at the turn. A more turbulent back found me 2 up through 12 and then having to grind out a testy par putt on 14 just to stay 1up after Steve rolled in a bomb. A rough 15 for both of us led to me going 2up with a double. Managed to close it out on 16 by clanging a par putt off the stick that was probably 15 feet past the cup if it didn’t drop.

Steve was a gentleman and a scholar as always. Happy to be able to tell my kids that this year I went to pop city and lived to fight another day!

Tried to shake off the scar tissue of getting my ass kicked by @jack67 at the same course last year. I scrapped around the front making great use of my many pops, but just couldn’t fight ya off on the back. Some really solid golf. You’ve got me wanting to try out the stack system for sure. Was a lovely walk despite getting jammed up on the back after a fairly swift front 9. Would love to play with you or Jack anytime. Always delightful company.

@PlumbBobMillionaire and I played our greatly anticipated rematch from last year’s Tiki at the Kiki today at Split Rock Golf Club. Sources are saying that last year’s epic slugfest at Manakiki resulted in a best ball 63 between Brett and I, so expectations were high as we teed off. Those expectations were not exactly met, but a really good match was played. I jumped out to a quick 2 up lead, but Brett quickly got those 2 back with a par on 4 and a birdie on 5. A tap in birdie (net eagle) and I was back in front, which quickly disappeared when I evacuated myself with upwards of 3 shots (including an S word) to get on the green from inside 100 yds on 7. A solid 2 putt par on 8 got me the lead back as we made the turn.
I played 10-12 even par, and got another win with an unfortunate lie situation that Brett had to deal with on 12. The match got really fun from 13-16 as we alternated wins, and we stood on 17 tee with the match dormie as I held a 2 up lead. With wind whipping off the left on the semi-short par 4, my drive found the fairway. Brett stepped up and unleashed a massive drive, riding the wind towards the green. Unfortunately the wind was unaware of his plans, and deposited his ball about 60 yards left of the green and out of bounds. I had prevailed 3&1.
It was once again an incredibly vibey and thoroughly enjoyable round. I’m thinking I may have to change my username to Plumb Bob’s Bane, though. And I am a little sad to not get to lose to @jack67 in the other side of the bracket, but you can’t win ‘em all!

Good Morning and good week match players!

I believe the bracket has been updated to show all current results so if you’re waiting to see who you should be playing against next make sure you hop in there to see if you’ve got an opponent. Honestly, for the most part, especially with the weather, I think we’re making pretty solid progress through the bracket so far. There are a few matches that are lagging slightly behind so I’m going to take them below to see where we are at with getting those scheduled to see if we can move them along. I hope you all are liking the double elimination so far this year, please feel free to let us know how you feel about it.

Following matches should have been scheduled by April 27th:
winners bracket
@SRS_One vs @n_Szub
second chance bracket
@jacobsoderberg vs @Biarritz
@ek365210 vs @Albatrossity
@Creags vs @beaumeyer

A few more in the second chance bracket:
@JBair31 vs @Jakes123
@Muskie41 vs @auribe14
@Collya vs @pjsutherland

As I said before, Will was in Hawaii for almost 2 weeks, so we’re planning to play this weekend.

If that’s too late to maintain your schedule (although hopefully not given how many matches are on your list), then I’m fine with a coin flip.

You’re right, you did keep us updated and I honestly forgot so that’s on me. Was more about pinging everyone as a group to get updates. If you guys are on for this weekend then I’d say we are good to go. Thanks PJ!

Unfortunately I am going to have to concede my match with @beaumeyer and drop out.

Just took on a bit more than I could chew this spring/summer with home projects, kids stuff, and other golf commitments and I don’t want to be a continual roadblock in the bracket.

Happy to host matches later in the summer as things calm down hopefully!
