Why not do both? 90% handicaps with a limit of 1 pop per hole?
Regardless of caps involved, the idea of giving up multiple strokes on one hole is insane.

That’s literally how the handicapping system works.
As I was saying, just do two separate tournaments, because you’re either forcing one group to play at a bigger disadvantage than they’re supposed to, or a different group is going to be upset they’re not being treated fairly
I understand that, but it’s because the handicap system doesn’t allow for more nuance than 0, 1, or 2 stroke differentials per hole.
There are almost no courses where a 3 handicap would statistically be expected to shoot 2 strokes better than a 22 handicap on the #1 index hole.
Like I said above, it probably all balances out in the end (low caps get more benefit than they should on easier holes), but being down multiple strokes before hitting tee shots on a hole is really annoying.
I really don’t like the limit of one pop per hole, that seems like it’s swinging the power dynamic too far back the other way.
This is correct.
The debate flies in the face of the whole point of this competition which is to get everyone together more.
Caps at 100%.
Also wrong. The example of such a course would be…
I didn’t say those courses don’t exist… plus I bet the actual statistical differential between @Browcoww77 and a 19 cap on its #1 index would be 1.5 strokes max, but it doesn’t really matter because there’s nothing we can do to change that system.
Great point. I’m playing regardless of the rules and am excited to lose in the round of 16 for the third straight year hah
You would know especially after watching me get my ass kicked on a 7400 yard course in tournament conditions as a #poofer
I would think the USGA guidelines have worked fine in the past couple years using 100% for match play. I think in the past the brackets have shown that the better players continue to make it through. Let’s look at the two winners. Both low single or plus caps.
This could cut both ways, but great point.
Definitely feels like anyone upset on either side should maybe remember the point of this all is to play with people you maybe haven’t played with or don’t play with often.
I appreciate that everyone cares enough about it to want to win and thus want the best shot at it.
This is erasure!
We all haven’t played golf in months. All we have is arguing over strokes for golf that will be played months from now.
The other factor is that we are not setting the handicap at the start and leaving it. If someone goes on a heater, they are using the handicap from the day of the match.
Fair point. Two low caps and an other, haha. Either way, history favors the low cap and the highest number winner was about a 12. I don’t think we have a rash of 30+s winning.
I have been on both ends of giving and receiving two strokes. I have never seen a scenario where the need for two strokes were not more than deserved as long as we are all playing by the golden rule here of “Don’t be a scumbag”
I’m tired of looking at snow so I might as well shitpost about handicaps
Also, looking at the USGA guidelines makes me realize we need a good 4-ball bracket as well.
Now that’s provocative.
Fucking. That’s a great idea.
Should we start it up this year?
