The only good thing about February is that it’s short
I kinda love NYC in Jan and Feb since most tourists are gone and it’s easy to get a reservation at most restaurants while people attempt their fickle new years diet resolutions. I’m a Resy contrarian and stack my calendar every Jan
@camgriff2 youll have a blast here and let us know if you need any dining/drinking recos. Jamie Carragher has a bar here too if Liverpool play the weekend you are planning to be here fyi
Hadn’t even thought about looking into it, looks like City v Liverpool is the Saturday we are looking at… Would be a blast to check that out I’m sure.
Hell yeah. I just hit play on this one.
It’s 37 minutes.
It’s the Strapped boys.
It’s New York City.
Also: George Best was a true menace.
“I saw an advert on the side of a London bus inviting me to ‘Drink Canada Dry’.” - Best on why he joined Vancouver Whitecaps.
Kind of a lame question but @MerchCzar any idea what kind of sunglasses these are?
Hat tip @Jpop942
I had to google Manhattan University. I’m pretty sure my wife had a visit there for cross country, but I didn’t know exactly where it was or where the team practiced. Maybe they went to Winged Foot or Balty or something.
The school is basically at the end of the subway line in the Bronx and there are two golf courses in walking distance to that stop: Van Cortland Park and Moshulu.
@MerchCzar as a lover of public transit would you ever consider this voyage to play golf?
Beans Factor is an elite name.
It’s a trip many make for Van Cortlandt. I don’t think Mosholu is actually accessible via the subway but VC is a 5 min walk from the end of the 1. VC has some very good bones but from what I understand it’s in disrepair these days (I haven’t played it in 15ish years). Eminent Domain also destroyed the flow. Major Deegan runs right through the course now, the last 4 holes are on the other side of the highway and are terrible. Def a course that can use some TLC
This delights me. I’m a big fan of the subway and I also love seeing or carrying a golf bag where it’s not expected to be seen and may not belong. The thought of shlepping clubs down the stairs and through the turnstiles just makes me smile.
Can confirm
EAL surprisingly has a good episode on VC, worth the watch. I played it a handful of times in 2018-2019 by taking the 1 train up when I lived on the west side. Fun, easy and unique golf experience. Course conditions were always pretty brutal, but I had a fun enough time. Old clubhouse/locker rooms are cool from what I remember.
VC was the first public golf course in America. It also has horrible pace of play
Carrying golf bags on the subway isn’t that unexpected anymore. Frankly, nothing’s really unexpected on the subway
