Looks like a 9am shotgun start. I plan to be there by 7:45-8 for proper pre-round shenanigans and meeting Team Prince!

Seems like posts automatically lock after a couple months in the New Refuge. And yes, I had meant to send the email out on Monday and here we are on Thursday. Please keep an eye on your inbox over the next hour or so. I will x-post everything here as well.

Is there any chance this is still a possibility? No worries if it doesn’t work out, but walking WBYC sounds way better than working tomorrow.

Y’all should have seen that email come through but here it is, again, in it’s entirety:

Hello friends,

We made it. It’s officially North Star Shootout week. I had started drafting this on Monday, and here we are on Thursday - apologies for keeping y’all on pins and needles. Needless to say, I am very excited to see all of you and I’m pretty confident we’re going to have an absolute banger of a day. Let’s get to the important stuff:

GROSS NATIONAL GOLF CLUB

SCHEDULE

7:00 - 8:30 AM: Arrival, Check-in, Warmup

8:45 AM: Group Photo (this is mandatory)

9:00 AM: Shotgun start

12:30 - 1:00 PM-ish: AM Session concludes, Team Awards, Playoff Groupings, lunch/col’ beers

1:30 - 2:00 PM-ish: Match Play Playoff begins (Hole 1), Bonus golf/Cross-Country begins (Anywhere but Hole 1)

4:00PM: Public play opens on Hole 1 (we should be comfortably clear of any public groups, but please be mindful aka don’t fuck it up for everyone. This was a way for us to get some of the cost back since our numbers were lower than expected).

6:00 - 7:00 PM-ish: Final awards/more col’ beers

After: Play as much bonus golf as you like, provided you don’t hold up any public groups. After Party will be at Headflyer Brewing Company which has free live music until 10:00PM (and is open much later).

We will be scoring electronically via the Golf Genius app Android | iOS

One person from each foursome will log in and post scores for the group via the Group GGID posted on each Cart Sign.

FORMAT

AM Team/Individual Quota (18 holes, 9:00 AM Shotgun)

Scoring:

  • Quota is a form of net stableford scoring. Your quota of points is 36 - your Playing Handicap (at 95% handicap allowance, per USGA recommendation). Look it up if you need more info.
  • Play your own ball.
  • Record your GROSS SCORE on each hole. No strokes on holes, nothing fancy.
  • TRIPLE BOGEY MAX.
  • Local rule: play all white stakes (OB) as lateral hazard - 1-stroke penalty.

Conclusion:

  • Highest Team Total (sum of all players on each team) relative to quota wins Team Competition and prizes (it’s a surprise)
  • Teams seeded 1-8 based on to Team Total
  • Top two players from each team advance to PM Match Play Playoff Bracket

- Brief Note: Anyone who doesn’t advance to the playoff may do whatever they want at this point; bonus golf beginning anywhere but Hole 1, x-country, or Derby game organized by StrokesGainedDrunk -

PM Match Play Playoff Bracket (Fourball, beginning on Hole 1)

Scoring:

  • Fourball is a form of 2v2 Match Play - each player plays own ball, best score between the two partners is taken.
  • Quarterfinal Matches will begin on Hole 1.
  • 6-hole matches. Yes, only 6.
  • Each match will be NET. Handicapping is calculated by dividing 18-hole Playing Handicap by 3, at 90% allowance (again, per USGA). Play off the low man. Max one stroke per hole.
  • Bracket-style tournament - win match and advance. Ties after 6 holes will go to the lower-seeded team (no extra holes).
  • 4 Quarterfinal matches Holes 1-6, 2 Semifinal matches holes 7-12, Final match holes 13-18

Conclusion:

  • Winning 2-man team wins, among other things, NIT berth at Omni PGA Frisco, November 3-5 2023.

If any of this is confusing, don’t worry. It’ll be a little insane but a lot fun. I promise. When in doubt, please exercise the TC Way.

IF YOU NEED ANYTHING, my number is 651-336-0891. Call or text. I’ll try to answer quickly. See you all Saturday.

Love,

Nanski

What exactly is cross country? Asking for myself

Just playing across the course with no regard for the actual holes (while being respectful to the grounds crew, of course). Like throw some balls down in 8 fairway and play to 6 green, or whatever. It’s a riot.

I’m excited because of reasons @bignanski and @Battisstatus know, but also shit posting because it’s what I do.

Just because I’m staying with you doesn’t mean you can boss me around.

This also feels personal.

I love you for organizing everything and I can’t fucking wait to see everybody Saturday!!
