No Laying Up: Northwest England

Ending it with You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers made my Liverpool FC fan heart extremely happy.

This was a fun watch.

Halfway through - two thoughts from me before I forget. 1) TC’s white/cream Footjoy jumper is so tidy. I need it. 2) I’m very glad to hear DJ evoke the Star Wars trash compactor scene to describe the feeling of playing RLSA - one of my favorite golf course analogies.

@MerchCzar what was the white hoodie you are wearing in the Royal Birkdale match? That thing looked comfy.

Will the team be codifying the rules governing competitng for the Linksmaster Trophy? It seems like a reverse-challenge trophy where only the holder can issue challenges.

Great film - kind of reminded me of the competition Martin Mull and Michael Keaton had in Mr. Mom. Kind of fixed, but to the benefit of all parties concerned.

I loved having an increased focus on the golf! Good mix of storytelling and competition.

The entire round at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s seemed like the “straight up not having a good time” gif come to life.

This was awesome timing to watch last night before heading to Manchester tonight

Nothing better than a well timed “see ya, dink”

I want nothing to do with Royal Lytham and St Annes, but I respect it.

The team gets better and better at putting together videos like this. Just fantastic. And I know it gets said a lot, but @justine should get an Emmy for the music selections. I’m no music expert, but the selection for Neil’s debuting his haircut was epic. The British influences. Never Walk Alone. All of it. Brilliant!

And I look forward to the women having everything to do with it in a few weeks. Blow, wind, blow!

Played Lytham last year on a bluebird day with almost no wind and absolutely loved it. Naively put it in the “I could play this course every day” category, but after seeing how it plays in heavy wind, definitely not… Anytime you see thick gorse blowing around that much, you know it’s gotta be pumping 30mph out there.

Top production quality. Love that the guys from Stags Links Society got involved too. Good stuff.

Royal Lie-ver Building (not like the organ).

As in the Liver bird.

Also, opening with Echo and the Bunnymen was chef’s kiss.

The mental beating Neil and DJ took at Royal Lytham truly tugged at the heart strings.

And then Space Age Love Song! Great musical direction.

One of the two best Space Age Love Song needle drops, the other being in Mare of Easttown.

Having just played these three courses plus West Lancs last year, this was the best video the team has done. I think about all of these on basically a daily basis. Their sentiments are very similar to my own in terms of how they assess each.

I played Lytham the first day of the trip after having to spend one night in the Atlanta airport (NEVER fly through ATL during the summer thunderstorm season) then the next night sleeping on the plane, so I was delirious. It was during a hot and dry stretch so you learn quickly that your ball will just roll into a pot bunker no matter where you place it. Honestly didn’t like it at first but look back in appreciation now.

Hoylake and Birkdale though, are perfection in their own unique ways and the guys captured that really well.

Like three minutes into watching I thought “fuck, now I have to plan a trip back.”

@djpie did you pick the music?

Totally brought me back

Anyone clock the wind breaker DJ had in the Royal Lytham segment?

Absolutely loved this video. Truly masterful scoring as always, especially the YNWA at the very end.

I will say at particularly funny moment for me is @MerchCzar saying there is a “scouser haircut” at 3:11 into the video and then promptly pulling up Arthur Shelby of the Peaky Blinders. Notably from Birmingham, not Liverpool lol

Made me laugh a lot harder than it probably should have.

Tron with the intentional misinterpretation of the rules is an abomination and makes me question the legitimacy of NLU. He should be kicked out.
