Best way of cleaning/washing the NLU bucket? Can it just be thrown in the washing machine or is more care required?
I’m a little OCD about hat washing. I usually just soak them in oxyclean, rinse and hang to dry. Keeps white hats white too.

This work for sweat rings? Got a white hat from the Masters shop and it’s starting to yellow, have never washed a hat before.

I know this is a little out there but… shampoo works great. If we’re just talking bodily secretions it’s a solution that’s kind of hiding in plain sight. I scrub the area of interest with shampoo and then soak in hot water with some more shampoo mixed in. Hats come out clean as a whistle and I haven’t noticed any effects on color.

I’ve washed performance hats (baseball style) all the time with no issue.
I’ve never washed the big buckets, fearful of the brim stabilizing loop bending out of shape.
I’ve done some soaking in oxy clean + detergent before. The biggest help was moving to a sunscreen that doesn’t have the chemicals that cause clothing to yellow.

A couple hours soak in a couple 2 gallons of hot water with half a scoop of oxyclean is usually good for 2-3 sweaty hats.

Be careful with hats that have leather patches. I ruined the writing off a nice Lowside hat using the oxiclean soak. otherwise - works great.
I know this sounds very very stupid but take a shower in your hat. Like literally wear it on your head and use a bar of soap like you’re washing your hair. Air dry the hat and it’s always close to like new.

I wash the waterproof bucket hats in the shower. And leave them to dry.
This is the only way to do it.
What are you guys putting bucket hats in to soak? 5 gallon bucket warps the hat if there’s structure to it.
I did Oxiclean on Imperial buckets last summer and they came out starchy and wrinkled .

Utility sink, maybe just fill up the tub with a couple inches of water. I suppose you could have the hat sitting out and the water mix in a big spray bottle and just spray it every couple minutes for an hour while you’re drinking beer and watching golf (might keep you awake during this US Open “coverage”).

Never done it on buckets, can’t help there. Other imperial hats I’ve done have been fine. If starchy after, you might want to rinse more after the soak.

Love the idea of being in the shower, wearing a bucket hat you’re going to wash, and your partner/spouse walks in.
They’ve probably seen you do weird shit before…but that feels in line with the dementia ads on tv.
