Great conversation on the main pod this week with Christine Fraser. She brings a refreshing honestly and humility when speaking about her work, which is so far from the norm of most architect interviews.
Very excited to see her work at Toronto Hunt which is on some cool land up on the bluffs above Lake Ontario. But more important the whole accessible design aestetic and approach is sorely needed in golf. Make it fun, make it part of the community, bring people into the design process, etc.
I’m probably preaching to the choir here but as more concepts like WP9 get proven out as profitable yet accessible parts of the community, and more architects like Christine are being explicit about thier design principles, it bodes well for changing how golf is perceived and who feels comfortable trying it out.
Her comment about being a “look up” golfer vs a “look down” one really was perfect. Exactly the mindset I enjoy about golf. I will definitely be following her career to see what comes next.
Finally got around to listening to this today. Such a refreshing perspective on not just golf architecture but golf in general (the “golf as service” vs “golf as business” spoke to me).
I have actually played her family’s course (Camden Braes in Eastern Ontario) a handful of times. My beer-league hockey team used to have a cottage/golf weekend and that was one of the courses we played.
