NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

the activist shareholders who forced the changes at Peloton earlier in the year have another ppt deck out. They want a sale and they want a reimagined Peloton that is a software focused business. The ideas about what the new strategy is start on 15. Interesting read:

Back on the weekly ride after missing the last two bc of a golf trip and moving (the latter SUCKED).

Great thread. Feels a lot like they want a sale for the liquidity event not because it will necessarily improve the product or business.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Much of that is a bit above my head as someone who isn’t much of a business/finance guy, but…I dunno, it doesn’t seem good. I understand that obviously me liking it doesn’t mean they’re doing well as a business, but it’s a shame, because frankly I love how Peloton is currently. It feels like that isn’t for long.

Just received an email from Peloton saying that I may have seen reports of the all access membership fee being “updated” in the US and Canada but that the price in the UK is not “being updated” (I live in the UK). I assume that means a price rise in the US and Canada?

Haven’t gotten any email or anything about it yet, but saw a headline that it was increasing $5/month

How is @Douger23 doing. Just got his bike and now it’s hundreds cheaper. AND he has to pay more monthly.

Everything I’m seeing says the standard bike is the same as when I bought it unless you’re referencing the new rental program? I may also just be blind.

Edit: just saw that they are dropping the price. Looks like a 30 day free trial offer on mine may be getting activated with a reorder in the future under my dad and or fiancée’s name.

When we got our bike in 2020 there was a price drop a few months later and they honored it and sent us a refund. Imagine they’ll do the same here for bikes purchased within a certain time frame.

That’s good to hear. Since I’m only 2 days in to my 30 day at home trial, I figure that it will be honored. If not, I’m just gonna return it.

Won’t hurt to get in touch with customer support in any case. They’ve always been responsive and helpful in my experience. May be a bit busier today given the news.

Yeah, I’m going to give it a couple days to calm down and then reach out.

Following the recommendation from @anon24074719, here is my first post in the Refuge Peloton thread. This wasn’t my best effort, but some of you guys are MONSTERS!! I look forward to chasing you guys.

So not sure if folks know this but on the bike screen now, under settings there is something called Peloton 101, which helps you ensure your bike is set up correctly for you. Previously there were YouTube videos and whatnot but this is much better. I realized today after two years that my handlebars were a little lower than they should be. Made todays ride a little easier on the back, etc.

One thing I saw on Reddit was a discussion about bike fitting and someone suggested you could TILT your seat. I can’t figure out how to do that but if I did it might be a bit easier to keep my butt on the back of the seat? Is this a thing?

Finished up BYPZ’s bump week today and hit 7k minutes for the week! Gonna chase a PR in next week’s FTP.

Have any of my fellow Refuge Peloton riders recently recovered from COVID and gone through the whole process of getting going again on the bike?

Honestly, I didn’t have what I considered to be a particularly bad case - I was pretty much out of commission for a few days, but aside from that, as much as this is not a good thing and I hate to say it, pre-pandemic I wouldn’t have even thought I was that sick and would’ve been going to work.

Yet I am definitely feeling the impact on the bike. Once I felt like I was mostly done with it, I started doing a few low impact rides, and for the most part these were as easy as they should’ve been on me. There were a couple where I felt I was weirdly sweaty for not a ton of effort, but nothing felt weird. Then I bumped up to regular 20 minute rides, and some of them felt a little off, but I was still mostly feeling ok. This morning I did my first 30 minute ride post-COVID, and now I see it. Before this, I was pretty easily getting high 200s kj on 30 minute rides with a PR of mid 300s. If a ride had enough climbs, I could get to low 300s easily.

This morning, while the ride was definitely not built for high scores, I finished with something around 230kj and I felt like I would’ve previously doing 330+.

It’s scary. I am not super panicked long term I guess, I figure I’ll have to build myself back up. But it’s scary to think of how big the impact could be. Hopefully after a few weeks back at it, I’ll be back to the way I was before. But…who knows.

My girlfriend had Covid the week before last. We live together and I managed to avoid catching it even though we stayed in the house for about a week with very little time apart. I think she managed to have a fairly mild case as she kept working while testing positive and after a few days of resting, she started working out again. She did a couple of Peloton rides this past wknd after fully recovering and did a PB. Sounds like it impacts different people very differently.

Happy Tax Day to those who celebrate!

I remember a lot of folks doing this ride when it was released but it should be a popular one regardless. Thanks to @Bmich97do for nominating this week’s selection of Emma’s Foo Fighters Ride from 11/17/21. @ChickPhilA please update the title when you’ve got a minute. Have a great week!
