NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

Did a 60 minute PZ class this morning then tacked on a 10 minute climb ride with Sam. Sam is so great, even if I just used this class for a long Z4 session and didn’t follow his structure.

I’ve considered this before—you really think it’s worth the $40?

I usually work in 1 low-impact ride/week, and do 3-4 “full effort” rides. I don’t do too many of the actual recovery rides.

I ride “hard” 1x, then average 2x, then 1-2x low intensity rides (a PZE ride, LI, advanced beginner class, or ride a class “easy”).

I also bought a swivel. Cheapest way to get the biggest advantage of the plus.

I’m in week 3 now and can confirm that the improvements are pretty nice to see so far. Also, I absolutely despise bicycle crunches with cadence change. They are the devil.

As soon as that disclosure song come on, I knew exactly what was coming. PTSD and all that.

Last year I wasn’t even close to being able to get through them without stopping. This year they’re still hard, and I can’t quite keep up the same pace she does, but I can do them.

the program definitely works.

Yeah, I’m slowly starting to get to where I can do them. The issue I typically have is my quads cramping. I do the core classes after a ride typically and my legs are absolutely done by the time I get to those. I have the same issues with the tall planks. I have noticed in week 3 that the one minute plank feels like a 30 second plank did in week one in terms of exhaustion though!

So far, yes. Just not having to worry about my iPad being charged or chromecasting to my TV makes it worth it. Couple that with a HRM that’s already paired or my bike and it’s a no brained for me.

We said we were going to do it, and we did. I’m going to try and turn this into a habit again. Also, my HR monitor stopped working. Any recommendations for replacement?

I use a Scoshe Rhythm 24 that I like a lot. Rarely need to charge it

I did Ben’s 20 min Bowie upper body workout and a 10 min Bowie stretch today. The workout was good but the stretch used re-mixes of Bowie songs by some DJs. Not sure they were very good but perhaps just not my taste in music? Bowie’s stuff is pretty great on its own though so not sure why they needed to do the re-mixes?

Ben’s a big electronic music guy, it’s just his thing. His 10min full body stretches are my favorite.

That is lame. The last song in my Jess King workout was some special peloton remix. It was fine, but the rest were his usual bangers.

he was definitely talking about the songs being “bangers and belters” as per usual

yeah i think likely the same as Ben’s. He was encouraging us to hit the like / heart button on the song and if you had your Spotify linked to Peloton, it would turn up in your Spotify playlists. Maybe a revenue stream for Peloton ?

I use this feature all the time and think it’s great.

I have my Spotify linked but never think to do it.

I do it, and I’ve ended up curating a decent “workout” playlist I can use on my own this way, but yeah there must be a reason they want folks to do it.

Just out of curiosity, is there ways to use the bike for your own workout to where you can still see cadence, output, and resistance numbers?
