NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

It’s the most brutal ride…

I probably could have pushed a bit harder, but it was my first one. 168 avg

If you finished thinking, “I don’t have anything left” then you did it right.

this one was perfect for today. I walked 54 this weekend, traveled, had a tournament this morning, and wasn’t wanting a full 30/45 min effort. But knowing @Max_Power is coming made me push the pace a bit and got a PR for it.

PS - do a warmup before this one because you only get about 1min before you’re pushing.

It’s gonna be a few days before I can give this ride a shot. I did a 20 minute leg strength class with Ben Aldiss yesterday and can barely walk this morning. Lots of foam rolling and stretching in my immediate future, maybe a low impact ride mixed in.

On a slightly different note, I wanted to share that I have been really enjoying the sleep meditation classes before bed. If you are like me and have trouble quieting your mind and falling asleep quickly, I would highly recommend any of the sleep meditation classes. You can listen to the classes in bed using the phone app. I lock my screen and just listen to the voice prompts with my eyes closed in bed. It has been a huge help recently.

EDIT: Here is a good one to get started if you’re interested - Peloton

A guy at work uses the meditation to help him sleep every night also. He’s at like 20k minutes already this year!

This was an excellent ride for me this morning. Just got back from a weeklong golf trip where we walked seven rounds plus a few rounds on the par-3 course and yesterday I just couldn’t get the energy up to workout. A good nights sleep and this first thing in the morning was a good way to kickstart myself back into the riding routine. Big Denis fan.

OK great ride this week. However, I learned two things.

  1. Working out at night after the kids go bed doesn’t work for me. Exercising with a full stomach is a no go.
  2. When Emma says, “Don’t burn yourself out too quickly on these intervals” it’s probably a good idea to listen to her. I didn’t listen to her, burned myself out and paid the price.

100%. I’m on week 3 of counting calories and running a ~500 cal deficit/day, and oh my god it sucks to work out after dinner. Not only do I feel sluggish, but I get hangry right before bed, but without any cals left in the account. I have to work out before dinner now, or risk an awful night’s sleep.

Ya I’ve historically worked out in the mornings before the kids wake up but figured I’d try a new routine as I move exercise inside for fall and winter. It’s just not gonna work. As much as it stinks to wake up early it’s what needs to happen.

i’m also focusing on CICO, and this is BOLD! I’d for sure have two glasses of wine if i had 500 cal deficit and still go to bed with 200 in the bank!

I usually get on at night about 830pm after kids go to bed. I eat dinner between 5-6pm, which is definitely enough time to process food and not feel bloated anymore…if I ever did. There are some nights I’m feeling wore out from the day and I don’t want to hop on, but those are the days I dial back the effort into a comfortable pace and just get it done. It’s easier for me to do that then drag myself out of bed and try to put out a big effort right away.

Now, during the winter when it gets dark at like 4pm, I’ll try to ride right before dinner because I can’t do shit else anyway.

It’s aggressive, but I’m trying to establish a more long-term baseline. I’m going from 190 to 160 (my pre-covid weight), so I’m going to have to be more aggressive towards the end of that goal anyway.

Just do this ride and loved it! Had a couple thoughts!

  1. Playlist was amazing, I rode bike race for my fraternity and Sabotage was my burnout song at the end of training, so that was awesome!

  2. First time riding with whoop showing liver heart rate data, which was kinda sweet

  3. That was only my second 20 minute ride (I usually do 30 or 45) and that was an awesome quick workout.

  4. Kinda strange being the only person doing a ride at that point in time, but cool at the same time!

Echoing the group, really fun ride and exactly what I needed difficulty and length wise after three-straight days riding for the first time in a hot minute.
