You all are animals. I’ve had the bike+ a couple of months now and and need to pump up my rookie numbers. It’s been the best purchase.
I think my first real 30min ride was around 290kj. Keep after it and the results will come.
Your first 30 minute was 290??? I hate how bad I am at this.
I try to get 320 on every 30 min ride and I’ve had it for months.
Haha damn my best is 260 for 30 mins. I’m slacking!
I wasn’t coming at this from ground zero though. As @anon24074719 loved to mock, I was on the rower and doing what I could with a 35 and 50lb kettlebell before we got the bike.
And to be fair…I’m a larger dude to start with. Not swol in a free weight way, but 6’2’’ 207lbs or so when I started this (down to 195 as of this morning) provides more leverage to lean on those heavy resistances.
I know I’ll never get to the same output as the guys mainly due to mass/weight. I’m happy if i get around 275 for a normal 30minute class. I think my PR Is just over 300 in 30.
Just don’t get discouraged by the talented riders in this thread. Ride your ride and you will improve if you stick with it. You will have plateaus, too. I started from absolute beginner 2 years ago. I am still middle of pack to bottom third with this group. But, my rides have improved and I feel better and I think it’s helped my golf game, too. And that’s the most important thing. Don’t forget to try yoga or pilates, core, and stretching. These improve recovery.
Always, ALWAYS remember, if your numbers are not as high as others they are either cheating or their bikes are juiced/loose.
Love this - just focus on your improvement and getting what you want out of the bike. As mentioned often on here, there are some absolute monsters with the refuge tag. Another consideration is the calibration/juiced bike issues that can skew the stats.
I recently had my bike recalibrated. Come at me.

As one of the olds on this thread and also one of the folks who is probably in the physically worst shape of most folks on this thread, I can’t try to keep up with @tnord or @anon43372372 or I’ll in the best case get incredibly depressed and in the worst case hurt myself. But seeing the leaderboard (admittedly, I often turn it off until I’m done) and seeing where I am sometimes is a very good reminder that I might have left a little out there and can push myself harder.
Competition is good, but the most important competitor for you is you.
Unless you’re MJ or Tiger, there’s always somebody out there that’s better/bigger/stronger/faster. The bike isn’t much different than golf in its mentality, meaning that you’re just trying to get the best result you can given what you’ve got on that day. I don’t play good golf every day, and I don’t feel strong on the bike every day.
Some of those 480 outputs from last week I had to work harder for than the 520 from last night. Same thing in golf, sometimes that 78 seems like you played your ass off, whereas the 75 should’ve been better. Often times, you can take greater satisfaction in that modest output or score for the simple fact that it DIDN’T come easy.
And I think that’s where the magic of finding the right instructor is, motivating you to get up and get after it even though you don’t really want to.

Just hit this at lunch. So good.
I’m in a long activity slump and one of the issues holding me back from jumping back on has been my frustration that I’m going to be much slower than my previous standards/expectations.
Need to get past that and log some miles, even if they’re well behind my target pace. I’m not getting faster waiting for some magic solution.
create a burner peloton account and use that to get back into form, then hop back on the real account when you’re ready.
take your rightful place atop the NLU Peloton Refuge Throne. You can’t let some imposter like me take it from you.
This is an analogy I cannot understand.
I’m a ways away from some of you monsters, but this was the first time I got on the bike expressly trying to get a PR.
Gotta add that #NLURefuge tag, ProfD!
