Honestly didn’t even notice it… the different slang and lingo that UK folks have is entertaining to me. Brilliant, chuffed etc
Thought it was going to be awful and when he started off calling out 100+ cadence in the first ten minutes I thought my concerns were going to be confirmed but he backed off and it was more of a normal climb ride. No mea culpas from me after all. Tough but fair ride
My wife messaged Peloton on Facebook and got our bike delivery date pushed up three weeks to this Thursday (we like that)!
Did my first strength workout on the app with my phone but I’m looking forward to joining in on the cycling classes.
I’ve heard good things about the mastering the basics and power zones programs. Is it best to start by doing the mastering the basics program then go right into the power zone program? Or just do some beginner rides from the basics program until I get the hang of it and then do the power zones program once I’ve been riding for a bit?
The basics program are a lot about learning the bike. I’d maybe do 2-3 rides of that and then trying power zone program. You could also always jump in to any of the other rides. Looking for the music specific (artist spotlight) rides are what got my wife initially into the bike.
The subreddit has a lot of really good resources as well, but I’d take a look at this: https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/wiki/index/bikefit
Focuses on making sure your bike is properly fit (there is a good facebook video link in there) - depending how your bike gets delivered, they may help you with this but if not, def check it out
Thanks for the tips and the link! I’ll definitely check that link out before I start riding.
Agree on this being a tough ride, but this ride highlighted my issue with Alex (similar complaint to Devil Pixie) - great music, but it’s very annoying to watch an instructor stop pedaling. Feels like every time it happens my brain hiccups and I have to remind myself to not pull back.
Another tough, good ride. Another bottom half finish on the #NLURefuge Leaderboard. Y’all are good. When Alex stopped pedaling I just put my head down and kept going. It was nice to have a studio full of riders, too.
I rode in the studio once, it was actually more fun than I thought it would be.
Was hoping to take my wife to NYC and see if she wants to take a class in person. What are the parameters for doing that? I assume you have to pay something?
Well, they have to open things up and let you do that first, but I think it’s first come, first serve. My buddy has done it twice (he lives in NJ) and if he paid for it, I need to know that so I can begin mocking him
Yes I figured I wasn’t going to be special and let in to ride solo with Emma. Thanks @greebs
I thought I read on Reddit your have to buy a pass but I don’t really know
I mean, there are SOME things worth paying for. Though I think having Emma one-on-one analyzing my cadence and resistance and form might be terrifying. I for sure would ride hard AF though!
It’s first come first serve, and you def have to pay.
Yeesh. OK, I used The Google and found this. Not a ton of cash but weird to me:
It’s not that weird to me. No different than paying for cycle bar, soul cycle, orange theory, any other class related exercise activity etc
edit: im sure the price has trippled for in studio by now
Right, except all those folks are already paying for Peloton every month. I get that doing it in person is different and I’m hoping the instructor gets a fair cut of that (though I have doubts) for his or her time. Just not my thing. One reason I love Peloton is that it’s in my garage, on my time, without anyone else around.
oh absolutely - but you can take in studio classes without being a peloton member. conversely I know quite a few people who attend spin classes 4-5 times a week at a place here in Atlanta. I ask why they don’t just get a peloton and it always comes down to something about getting up and forcing yourself to go etc.
When they reopen I bet it will be like $40 a class at least.
I’ll stick to the bike in my living room I think.
Which I also get. I’m shocked I still motivate myself to use the bike, never happened with my old elliptical. I get needing motivation - I once joined a gym solely because I couldn’t commute home from work without walking past it, so it was hard to tell myself it was inconvenient, etc. (Still skipped past it way too often.)
As somebody who used to own a spin studio myself and taken hundreds of classes, no virtual ride will ever replicate a class with a full studio. The energy, excitement, and motivation is exponentially higher for me when i’m surrounded by a studio of strangers/friends.
