Loving the announcement about being able to stack classes. Warm up, ride, cool down, stretch - just click and go!
@apf0801 - evidently today is the last day:
Oh nice. They were threatening the cut off date last week!! I got so many emails. Lol.
You guys just having fun or are you seeing measurable results? Weight loss, leg strength, dropping sizes, etc? Or are all you guys already in too good shape for any of that to happen?
Ha I’m definitely not in that good of shape. I lost a good amount of weight to start with but have plateaued - but all the other evidence of health is good. Much stronger, my resting heart rate is lower, my heart rate returns to normal faster now after a workout, etc. I can walk 18 without being too beaten up unless it’s crazy hot or hilly or both, etc.
Anyone got any suggestions for bike shorts they use and like?
Same thing for dumbbells, they all seem so expensive, but I’ve never bought any before.
Baleaf bike shorts, got on Amazon for about $20 and love them
I’ve always used voler shorts, usually grab something out of clearance once every other year or so. I’m not overly concerned about appearance as it’s not a fashion show on the home bike.
Get yourself some chamois butt’r while you’re at it.
It’s paid off for me. I’m down 9 pounds since the week of Thanksgiving.
Thanks guys, definitely need to focus more on my mobility stuff, but who has the time / energy between lifting and riding…but seriously gotta get on it.
After about 20min on the bike my right hip flexor kills me. Has me only riding 2x week and doing stretching/yoga stuff the other 5 days mixed in with other aerobic exercise. Would like to be riding 4-5x a week right now, but no-can-do due to pain.
PZE rides where you sub z2 for z3 and z1 for z2 are excellent true recovery rides.
I’m down 28 pounds since the beginning of August 2020. My diet has improved materially in that time also which I know has helped. Feeling much better all around, more energy, better mood etc. My FTP results have improved a lot in that time also. I’m definitely beginning to see the rate of change slow down, which I expected so I’m not concerned.
But I do feel like the real work starts now. I haven’t been doing as many strength classes as I know I should, so I started working those in more. I did a lower body workout yesterday and man my legs are screaming today. It’s amazing that you can work so hard on the bike but still get hammered by an actual strength workout. The strength workouts will help on the bike for sure too.
I don’t know how active you were before you got your peloton but I was very active doing non-biking activities (team sports, running, hiking, etc.). One of the things I noticed in switching some of those workouts to the peloton was a distinct weakening of my hip flexors. To combat this, a couple of times a week I do slow side shuffles with a resistance band around my knees, among other hip strengthening exercises, to try to combat this trend.
Question - I have been taking a warmup ride from Ben and he says, a few times, “You’re gonna 'bot it today!” I know what he means is that I (or you or any other rider) is going to kill it, going to PR, etc. But where does this expression come from? I’ve never heard it anywhere else.
Have I just identified how old I am, by the way? I should add that the “ultimate hype music lately” he uses is the Chicago Bulls intro music from the late 1990s, so I’m pretty confused all around.
I have legitimately no idea where that would come from. I do love the different phrases the British instructors have though. I’ve gotten a few good chuckles mid ride
Always good to know when I’ve “done and dusted” a particular ride, indeed
I like to knock it out 10 mins in the AM while coffee is brewing.
