NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

Thank you! Found it. Typically bookmark future rides in the app.

ordered some this morning.

still did a ride today, and went to “advanced beginner.” finished top 10% all time. the instructor kept talking about pushing and pulling…which obviously isn’t happening. my one criticism of the pelaton is that it seems to work very specific muscles, primarily quads. depending on technique with the C2 I can focus on back/shoulders, legs, or core which I really like.

hoping getting shoes will help both make it easier and work more muscles. maybe I’ll move up to the “regular” classes once they get here.

Yah I do the same - I think it’s super annoying that you can’t search the same ways on both platforms.

Yeah, I mean, it’s a bike. Not really a lot to criticize about the design of a bike.

take a bunch of rides with Matt Wilpers and Denis if you are into wanting to learn how to use different muscles while riding.

pushing = quads.
pulling = more hammies and glutes
full 360 pedal stroke gets both working
riding while standing - adds core
do a ride that includes arms and you do arm toning with weights in the middle of the ride.
Or a bike bootcamp that does full body, upper body, or lower body strength in the middle.

or utilize the peloton app to do one of literally thousands of strength classes that all focus on different parts of the body. you can string together 10-15 minutes of lower, upper, core together for a longer full body workout.

but seriously you’ve had 2 rides (with out proper equipment) - give it a chance lol!

Also there are hundreds of classes titled “intervals and arms”

I know this is pretty weak compared to some of you guis, but I’m proud of myself.

First time over 370kJ, first >200 watt avg, and first >20 mph avg. Those are goals I’ve been chasing for a bit.

Just finished up this weekend project. Been wanting to have a shelf for the peloton accessories for a while. People sell pre-made ones online, but they are more $$ than I was willing to spend. Ended up finding a DIY plan for a shelf like this, and modified it for what I was needing. Very happy with how it turned out!

I’ll look into some of those other classes. Not quite sure how any upper body gets done on a bike however.

I don’t mean to be too negative on it, there’s just so much hype around the thing I expected to be surprised somehow. But in the end, it is just a bike and all of its limitations. My competitive side wants to get on the thing every day, but I know that the rower is a more complete movement.

I’ve never done a class in my life, and I have to admit I feel like a bit of a dork on it. But I will say that time does seem to go quickly, and I will continue to use it alongside my usual C2 rower and kettlebell setup.

Just jump in on these weekly challenges at least and beat the guys on the top of #NLURefuge. Should be a pretty easy feat.

Jumped on the Irene ride on Friday. Hadn’t done one of hers before and really enjoyed it.

As ever, the Germans know their onions when it comes to proper dance music.

Any recommendations for third party hr monitors? Peloton’s is garbage. I can’t get either of mine to connect and stay connected.

I’ve been doing light yoga for about a month now but this class was eye opening. Hammys are tight!

I thought the same about mine. Get the back of it wet first. Works much better.

Mine crapped out entirely after about a year even after I replaced the battery. I got a Polar (courtesy of @marklemcd) and so far it’s been EXCELLENT.

I’m coming up on a year and having the same issues. Replaced the battery last night and it still had issues.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I should note mine has been only about nine months, but the battery ran out because I idiotically didn’t unsnap it after use so it was on all the time. But after I replaced the battery, on one ride it said my heart rate was 230bpm and as a bigger guy I had a few moments of wondering if it was possible to be having a heart attack and not know it at all. (Fortunately I had my WHOOP on at the same time which showed a perfectly normal HR. This was in the first few minutes of the ride, as well, when the Peloton HRM was, for me, always a bit wonky.)

Nice job!!
Finished one last week with some leftover plywood and few things from Amazon.

I have been using my left over heart monitor from Orange Theroy. Works great.

I have this one. Maybe you can find it cheaper online somewhere else.

This was the first one I saw on EBay
