Very excited in the interest my wife has shown in the game. Her mom gifted her a starter set for her birthday this week, and we are full steam ahead.
She signed up for this virtual event from Five Iron Golf tonight, hoping they provide some good information for her.

The real gift is going to be the second set of clubs I get her, after she breaks this set over her knee. Finding out this game really pulls out her competitive streak. But she keeps wanting to go back?

My wife went out for her first round ever yesterday and played with a coworker. Going out she just sounded excited to drive the cart but then she started texting me live updates. Then the mammoth came: she got a birdie. In classic fashion too: driver, driver off the deck, one putt. I was so proud and then like 90% happy for her (trending downwards) when I realized I have never birdied that hole in 30 rounds. The birdie was attested by said coworker, no mullies. She’s letting me play with her Tuesday

The event went well!
My wife was fairly familiar with most of the terminology of golf, but found some of the swing tips and club selection tips to be helpful. She is making great improvements on the range!

The newest young lady hitter, Charlotte Gwendolyn would like to announce her arrival on the scene as of 10/9/20. Not unlike her dad, her current game is basically LPCP, but she’s working on it.

Hi Ladies!
I figured the collective here could give me some input. My girlfriend has played golf all her life – in a very casual way. She’s a taller gal at 5’8 and because of this (and perhaps cost considerations) she just always had hand-me-down clubs, but her set has kinda morphed into being a conglomerate of some of her dad’s old clubs, some of her mom’s old clubs, with multiple flexes/lofts/etc. She doesn’t really play enough to warrant spending money on getting fit and she doesn’t need the newest clubs. But something that would fit her better I think would help her enjoy golf even more.
All that to say: any taller ladies have any advice on iron sets we should be looking into? Any advice is much appreciated!
Take this with a grain of salt since I’ve been out of the golf club scene for awhile. But when I had a golf store “senior” flex was basically the same as “ladies” flex. The only difference was the senior flex clubs were standard men’s length, so about 1" longer than standard ladies. (and ladies clubs had girly colors and cute swirly lines since apparently club manufactures think all women want that…)
This might have changed over the years, but if you think she would need longer clubs, I would start by looking at something like 3balls.com or CPO for a set of men’s senior flex irons.
