I could listen to Harry rip on the television product and LIV for hours. @Soly in the moment do you ever say to yourself “I can’t believe this guy is actually saying some of these things”
I really hope he keeps improving his game so he remains relevant. The game and Tour both need him.
Listening to the pod I couldn’t help but internally debate if I want Higgs to succeed on tour, or wash out and quickly join a broadcast booth. They might need a quick trigger on the 5 second dump button, but he’d be wildly entertaining as a commentator.
The line Harry had along the lines of “I was just being a little bitch, but I couldn’t stop” was the most relatable thing. I have those rounds where every “bad” shot just results in a mini-tantrum and you just can’t seem to get out of it until the next round
The idea to force the LIV guys to play a minimum 18 PGA events to get their card back (in addition to the full LIV schedule) has strong “you’re not being fired but you will have to split time between the Anchorage and Key West offices” vibes.
Finished the pod. He seemed to get a little over his skis when he started discussing LIV. Lots of conflicting comments. The only players who would take the 18 tournament deal are Reed and Gooch. All the “stars” that left truly want to make more money playing less golf.
He billed it as a great idea. I thought it was dumb. Like he said, only Patrick Reed might do it, and… it’d let them any LIV defector stay on the PGA Tour through at least the rest of that season, maybe the next, because they wouldn’t be off the Tour until they failed to meet that requirement.
I had an improvement thought on his LIV take, let LIV players play in whatever events they want. . .however, half of the money they earn is given to local charities.
Really enjoyed this interview. Although it seems with Harry you can just throw out a few thoughts and let him loose. I hope he’s able to remain this open and available as his game improves and he raises his visibility, which I hope he does.
The pro game needs more guys like him, Max, Tom Kim, Sahith, Ashkay…, and as he mentioned, enable better storytellers.
The LIV reconciliation plan had a “we’re a few drinks in” feel.
