Nest Invitational Tournament aka NIT - Viiibbiiinnnggg

Some would say maybe a little too good…

As a local who didn’t qualify, it would have been awesome to be there to support the refugees but understand the covid situation.

Seems tough though with the food and drink setup even in non covid times.

Randy would love nothing more than to take a page out of the USGA’s Volunteer Playbook and charge gallery members for special shirts so they can easily be identified as non-competitors.

Edit: (Oh God I just found his pinned post. The above was sarcasm if that wasn’t already clear.)

As a 19 handicap, I have not entered any of the NIT rounds into my handicap log, mainly because there are holes where I scored a double bogey via the mercy rule where I didn’t putt out the hole. I know in one of my groups we discussed this as some players were a 5 or lower like a +2 so by default they can’t record a score any lower than a bogey, so they can enter their scores. Should I or should I not enter my scores. Asking for an imaginary friend.

Net double bogey is the highest score you can record on any given hole IIRC.

I posted with net double bogey (ESC) on any hole I was in pocket for.

I usually take double par in these situations. Is that cheating?

Thanks for the input. I would say not cheating as you probably were getting a stroke or two and double bogey net with two stoles is an 8 on a par 4. You probably balance out on a hole where you over count yourself score and ESC kicks in.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking.

Thanks

It’s net double now. You can and should enter them all.

Even if you pick up because your partner birdied in a four-ball or something you estimate your most likely score and post that.

Now that the issues are settling, I wanted to say a huge thank you to ALL the participants at the NIT.

I’m a relative newbie to events, and frankly only got an invite as a result of planning the Big Cedar event a few weeks prior the the NIT. So was carrying some serious insecurities about going, not sure what the event would be like or if anyone would even hang since I wasn’t a part of any cliques (Laz’s notes about “non-qualifiers attending” didn’t help, even if I knew it was all in good fun)

All I can say is that those insecurities were immediately wiped away. From the moment @NightTrainLane picked me up at JAX to playing a practice round with @Gdasilva11 and the potentially worst walk-on I have every played with (RIP Mr. Wallace), I felt right at home.

It was difficult to watch as the post-event chatter took the hard turn, so let me be clear to anyone lurking and on the fence about attending an event in the future - Just go, I promise you won’t regret it!

I’m very grateful to be a part of this community and I’m really looking forward to more meet-ups in the future - and again, thank you to all the organizers (@Privatecollection - big hugs) and everyone I had the pleasure of meeting. Can’t wait to do it again!

Completely agree. I had an awesome time and my memories from the event are overwhelmingly positive.

@chrismarz don’t forget that between the two of us, @phegs32, @djpie and @justine we all made Bradley the most represented school at the NIT. Mid-major my ass…

Was great meeting a fellow Brave down there and count me in for some St. Louis golf next time I’m down your way!
