If you’re sitting on the floor in the center, at a lot of concerts, the volume is usually lower there cause you’re not directly in line with the main PA speakers. Not sure if that’s your usual move at shows, but could be the case.
Saw them play Newport Folk Festival a couple years ago. I dug it, but I wish the main lead singer would take the lead most of the time, really like his voice. The other guy with the mustache and hawaiian shirts has almost a muppets vibe or something sometimes. Looks like he’s having fun though, so that’s cool.
I usually plant myself in front of a PA if at all possible. I first noticed the quietness at Dead & Co. Nashville 2015 - and I just figured the show was quiet for whatever eason. Then I saw them at Lakewood a few years later… quiet.
Then, I took a few years off from Dead & Co. - until the Forum run during their ‘last tour’ - quiet again.
I thought, surely the Sphere will take charge here and make sure everyone’s really feeling this new system - again, quiet.
You could really feel the low end during Drums > Space, though. That was cool.
The line about Neil starting the timer was an all time top @djpie joke. Right up there with Macklemore at Pebble and “he’s sympathetic to the Metal Mulisha”
Properly guffawed at the ‘can you imagine what the people on that boat are thinking right now’ line from @djpie - just a gorgeous set up, scene painting and punchline. Awesome.
@Cody surprised to hear your trials and tribulations finding the right solution for your ice…did you not receive the nest gift this year? Seems like Neil was way out in front on this one.
@MerchCzar on the topic of your Zyn shortage, there seems to be a lot of gray area around smoke shop and related businesses in NYC. Search Engine did a two part deep dive into illegal weed stores earlier this year.
If it’s not already in the rota, Search Engine feels like a tailor-made Trap Draw podcast listen.
I really like Search Engine - despite all the weird stuff that happened at Reply All, where PJ Vogt was prior, I loved that podcast.
I can’t get over the theme song which feels like a complete ripoff of Succession. Like, I don’t even know how it’s possible for it not to be musical plagiarism.
@MerchCzar when are we going to get an update on the European vacation? Made the same trip from Lisbon to Seville via car after an overnight flight last year and curious to hear your thoughts on that bridge coming out of Lisbon and the general vibe.
@MerchCzar we are also in a heavy diaper cream phase with our 2.5 year old. The limit truly does not exist with regard to how much desitin you can and should slather on there. Butt spatula is a game changer.
Contrary to the Booth Boys’ experience, when you travel through Europe, please DO NOT drive around with your kid in your arms. It might be tolerated in Spain and Portugal, it’s actually banned in the whole EU. Let’s just say that the Spanish and the Portugese view most traffic laws as suggestions instead of laws…
Besides it being incredibly unsafe and a case of questionable parenting, not having your kid in a certified, suitable car seat will get you a $350,- fine, and in the worst case, CPS will be notified in Western Europe.
Listening to Neil talk about coming through customs reminds me of when I came back from Germany a few weeks ago. We landed in Chicago the day after the Chiefs Ravens opening night game and I was wearing a Chiefs sweatshirt. The customs agent said I’m not sure if I can let you in wearing that sweatshirt with a serious face and made my heart jump into my throat for a second before I realized that he was giving me shit because he was a Ravens fan.
Not sure if Spotify has this too but Apple podcast app has a transcript for the podcasts now, which is helpful. Looks like the book is called “On Desperate Ground”.
