Hell yeah man.
I did not, no.
Love the Dead Boys
Ok,
Random story. Iāve stated this before but I worked in a skate shop for many years. One of the brands they carried for a bit was āFuctā apparel. Anyway, this one shirt was there for awhile that I always thought was sick, and I finally broke down and bought it. It was a Dead Boys shirt. I had never listened to them at that time so, I drove up the road to Cheapo and bought āWe have come for your childrenā because I couldnāt wear a shirt without listening to the band first.
Still have the CD and this shirt
That album has a pretty solid closer
https://youtu.be/0oaXNXw_Gaw
It might be the best one in the album.
Few more:
Kiwi Maddog 20/20 - Elliot Smith, Roman Candle (1994)
https://youtu.be/NT6ds9DE8gY
Play Crack the Sky - Brand New, Deja Entendu (2003)
https://youtu.be/OyIX84ti7ao
Always Coming Back Home to You - Atmosphere, Sevenās Travels (2003)
I donāt know if this qualifies for best album closer, and itās certainly from a niche genre, but this is what came to mind the last time I said āholy shit thatās how you close out an album!ā
The Replacements āHere Comes A Regularā from Tim
Iāve got to go with Glory Box from Portishead. Shout out @justine

Hell yeah, man.
Not an opener (unless you count the EP), nor a closer, but it was on blast today.
Phenomenal! Iāve heard this version in a movie but Iām blanking on which one.
Wedding Singer?
This is very often a song I think about and I have not thought about how much stronger it is as an album closer til now.
Red House Painters āDropā
So much that I canāt say to you
My voice shakes from the hurt that I hide
Ashamed of my existence
And of my petty often wounded pride
Iād like to come home to see you
And to catch your sickness by the bedside
But then youād know how much I really need you
All the love in an instant
Makes my life stop
But then my hate for you
Makes my feelings altogether drop
If only I were blind to your selfish fling
And your desperate cause
And didnāt press you for the details
That threaten my physical flaws
Iād like to come home to see you
And embrace your illness under soft light
But then youād know how much I really need you
All the love in an instant
Makes my life stop
But then my hate for you
Makes my feelings altogether drop
So much that I can say to you
With affection that I burn inside
Youāre aching from the distance
Avoiding strain thatās running still alive
If only I could heal you
In the sprinkling of the ocean side
But then youād know how much I really love you
All the love in an instant
Makes my life stop
But then my hate for you
Makes my feelings altogether drop
Iām guessing Empire Records. It was prominently featured.
Yeah, those guys did so much great music. That whole time of the 90s and into the 00ās with Songs: Ohia and other lo-fi/country/alt bands were just awesome. I really enjoy this type of music. Thoughtful, not afraid of emotion, and easy to tell stories. Thanks for sharing that track.
