The most random part about the Malice in the Palace were how many people I knew watched it happen live. I was watching it because I’ll watch anyone play basketball but almost immediately my father (who doesn’t watch unless the Celtics are involved) and my BIL (who doesn’t like the NBA at all) called me to ask me if I had seen it.

I also remember the SportsCenter anchor trying to act as if Artest laying on the scorer’s table was meant to diffuse the situation with Ben Wallace when he was obviously trying to show him up, which causes Steven A. Smith’s head to explode.

Pussy

I KID!

There is a recent documentary about his struggles with being Bipolar. It’s worth a watch to understand where he was coming from. Won’t spoil it for you except, he and the guy who threw beer on him are now friends. Turns out they had a lot in common and we’re both dealing with some stuff at the time.

As usual, there is more than meets the eye. He’s had his challenges and failed spectacularly at times.

Required viewing regarding the Malice. The Palace stuff starts at 3:45, but the whole thing is gold.

You should have told him to fuck off. One of two things would’ve happened 1) he backs down and girlfriend is beyond impressed (she invites other soccer girls over and things get wild). 2) he beats you down and you get millions of dollars in a settlement, you invest that money in some small and promising tech companies, Amazon and Google. You are now in the 3 comma club.

ahhhh yes… what’s that saying about hindsight being 20/20 or something? Let’s just say in that moment there were no thoughts of wild orgies or $, just survival

Imagine if the Malice at the Palace happened today - how many different angles would there be from fans with their phones? Also in reading about it again I’m thinking Jackson and O’Neal got off pretty light - in hindsight I can’t believe they weren’t suspended for the year too.

Just think of the uproar around Myles Garrett the last week (well-deserved to be clear - I’m surprised he’s not permanently banished to the XFL) - I’m pretty sure if this brawl happened today all the penalties would be exponentially worse.

“it felt good to punch a fan one time… I regret it, i regret it because I lost 3 million dollars behind it and almost lost my job”… can’t say I wouldn’t feel the same way if I was him.

I’m booking mine because it’s like 14k delta miles right now.

Freshman year of college hanging at an off campus house drinking pbr. That’s where I was when malice at the palace went down. Still remember everybody’s jaw hitting the floor watching that.

Never seen a ticket that low.

Delta has the relatively new “basic option” where you don’t pick your seat or anything. 22k for the normal option which still bangin…its ATL to Detroit…what you expect.

In the old days when Cincinnati was a Delta hub, a ticket from Cincinnati to Atlanta, hub to hub, cost like $800. Outrageous.

That place just made no sense in terms of comparison to market ever… I was constantly astonished by pricing to/from CVG. I usually drive now, so don’t see the prices any more, but hope they’ve come more in line with reality.

I remember this from my last traveling job. Cincy (and Buffalo) were among the two highest priced airports in the country. For a hub, that was inexcusable.

They have because there are airlines other than Delta using the airport now.
