March Mudness Part 3 2023

random knowledge trivia is my GAME…i have too much useless information stored. FYI the national animal in Scotland is the unicorn.

Now for a bummer. Unfortunately I have to announce an update to Sunday’s field. After 2 years of successfully dodging it the coronavirus has caught my ass and I’ll be in the health and safety protocols through the weekend. Absolutely gutted as I’ve been looking forward to this since last year’s event.

Mudness will always have a special place in my heart as the first NLU event I attended, and a place where I made some great friends. Plus I simply love Kankakee Elks. I cannot wait to return in 2023!

I assume this means I am a DQ from the first round of matchplay, since I understand the goal was to have it completed on the 27th. But if there’s any leeway to hold the match shortly after, I would gladly meet @happykamper any place any time that works for him.

As for the Bourbon I donated to the raffle I guess I have two updates. One is that I’m upgrading the 375ml of Buffalo trace to a 750ml of Buffalo Trace to add #value to the board and encourage more donations. Second is since I can’t bring the goods to mudness I’ll have to find an alternative way to deliver them. Hopefully we can meet up for some golf once I’m recovered.

I’m trying to remain positive in this dark time and remember that DJ lapped the field at the 2020 Masters shortly after beating covid. Could the coronavirus actually make you a better golfer? I think Rahm all but confirmed that at the 21 US Open. Will I too overcome this adversity and run away with things at the 2nd annual burban memorial NLU golf classic, not likely, but only time will tell.

Tough news Tim. Drink the fluids and take the vitamins.

Meanwhile the prognosticators are scrambling. Tim’s microwave man tendencies led him to having some of the highest quota weeks in last years breakfast ball season. A streaky player, if he was hot he would have been a good bet for the sweet 16.

Partly Cloudy and 34. Hmmm. notgreatbob.gif

Sad scenes in the Mudness thread! A bunch of guys calling themselves Mudders, but fiendishly attached to their Accu Skies and their Dark Weather apps! Sad! I thought we were born in the mud - MOLDED BY IT! Our mothers were mudders! Adverse conditions are nothing but a mere opportunity to display what makes you better, tougher, muddier. I won’t stand for it!

Any other pop culture references I missed? Am I the messed up one because I’m jealous of you guys playing golf in this?

My models are still giving me mostly sunny and 38. We can do this!

Some serious “Don’t hold me back” vibes here.

Unfortunately I have now realized my models don’t have this occurring until very late in the day.

@TeddyPargame when are you making decision on start time? As a father of two (2) with a 2 month old at home, if this is getting pushed (way) back I need to start prepping the lady of the house.

I’ll come up with a plan by EOD tomorrow, is that fair?

I know people need to plan but as someone who also plans events as my day job, the weather can turn +/- quickly. That tends to usually be precipitation or wind variances and not temp, but you never know.

Jump into the DM’s if anyone wants their voices to be heard and disregarded (I kid!). In particular ideas for a modified tournament would be welcome.

The considerations and my thoughts:

  • The full event as written should take 8 hours of on course time, and that’s hustling 2x4-hour rounds. Many people may only play the first 18 and scoot if they miss the cut, which I understand. Still, tournament officials are making decisions with the full event in mind.
  • Sunset is at 7 – so naturally we couldn’t start later than 11 and play it as written. (We can of course modify the tournament)
  • We aren’t going to have time for a lunch hang sesh any longer. So the efforts done during this hour window need to be done elsewhere. Not impossible.
  • It looks like the money time of getting that precious 32nd or 33rd degree is 10:30/11
  • It feels like a postponement to 10:30, with a possible/probable 30+ minute frost delay of pub trivia, is likely. But if we’re lucky we can go launch them right at 10:30
  • Jim and the fine folks at the club are going to have the upstairs banquet room set up for pub trivia, and will be serving drinks. So a worst case scenario is hanging up there for an additional frost delay.

Formal official announcement by EOD tomorrow.

Watch this space for more.

NLU doesn’t have an official messaging platform for these events yet? '23 goals

(Really just hopeful it ends with “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO KANKAKEE. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”)

I don’t want to my hyperbolic, but that’s the greatest golf picture I’ve ever seen.
