Lawn Psychopaths - Grass

@BigBackstopping is the pro landscaper, looking forward to his input and what solution he may have.

Maybe a french drain?

Your best bet judging by the picture would be a curtain/french drain.

This would entail some perforated 4 inch pipe, crushed stone and some fabric. The idea of a drain system like this would be to digging a narrow trench about 12 inches deep, depending on the pitch of the yard and where you want to draw the water away too. Then line the inside of the trench with fabric. Fill the bottom with a few inches of crushed stone. Then start your pipe work with perf holes facing down. Cover the rest of the pipe with crushed stone till your back to orginal grade. The idea is that as the water comes up it’ll filter through the stone and into the pipe and then be drawn away from that area. Hydrostatic pressure is a crazy thing.

Obviously something like this might a little bit more complicated for someone without a ton of experience but I’m sure you could get a local guy to come out and give you a price or some recommendations. It’s hard to say with 100% certainty without actually walking the property.

He’s like the Triple Rainbow guy of lawncare.

Thanks to @aannddyy00 in the new homeowner thread I got steep into the lawn care nut YouTube videos and podcasts after we bought our Casa. Posting in this thread is more intimidating than sharing food photos under what’s cooking.

This is about as good as I can stripe without the stripe kit on. With the stripe kit on you can make it look like a major league outfield. Maybe I’ll fuck around with the kit in a few weeks if we can’t work and see if I can lay some stripes.

Probably one of the nicer lawns we’ve done. Sod of course. Still looks this mint to this day.

This is what it started like.

This is after the sod was down for 6 months.

I use a 22" Toro push mower with a Toro stripe kit to create this. The one bad thing about where I live is my house faces east so the stripes aren’t very visible in the PM from the road since the sun is in the back of the house.

TIL there’s such a thing as a stripe kit.

Dealing with a new lawn grow in. Got the grading and seed down last fall pretty late, but got good grow in despite the late work. Just overseeded today and re graded around our new fence posts. Have some water runoff issues that I’ll have to fix with a French drain but looking forward to nurturing this baby.

Striping kits, damn…

There’s a pool in my backyard that I’m filling in soon, starting to get excited about that extra area to get some grass going

Reading through this thread led me down a rabbit hole of watching an hours worth of lawn care videos on YouTube… and I’m currently renting in a duplex with no lawn to maintain :man_facepalming:t2:

My backyard is terrible. When the people we bought our house from put on an addition, they didn’t do anything to fix the backyard after construction. So our yard is full of holes and ruts from the construction vehicles. I don’t really want to go to all of the expense to have it torn up and redone, but I’m not sure there is a better solution.

I’ve had so many trees removed that I have so many sinking spots, and new drains put in over the winter all around the house, that I think I’m just gonna kill my lawn next spring, level it, and re-seed it all.

Sand leveling won’t fix what I’ve got going on here.
