I suspect that everyone is aware of the unprecedented flooding that happened in central texas this last weekend, and the terrible toll it took on the communities along those rivers. There are more than 100 confirmed casualties, and millions of dollars in damages that will impact these cities for years.
The Strohs roost is setting up a fundraiser to make a donation, and I wanted to see if other refugees might want to contribute. Primarily, please don’t let this get in the way of your giving - any direct donations, or working with your church or social groups is incredibly appreciated. But if you’re so motivated to help because of this community, here’s a chance.
The South Central Roost Regional Championships are scheduled for next week, July 19th and 20th, at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, OK, between the qualifying teams from the Strohs, Big Plex, and Supercell. The Strohs have fired up a competition challenge, with members pledging certain donation amounts for how well our team does that weekend. A couple of Plexers have joined the party, too. Things like “$1 / $5 / $10 / $50 for a net par/birdie/eagle/eagle+, for all four players across all 36 holes.” We’ve also had members pledge a certain amount for Win / Place / Show, and an amount based on how many strokes the winning team wins by. We’re hoping to drive a little bit of interest in following along with live scoring, and to cast a wide net to maximize the donation amount, and would love creative donation pledges from folks.
The lump sum will be donated to the Community Foundation for the Texas Hill Country (https://www.communityfoundation.net/, direct giving link /erp/donate/create/fund). I’ll be collecting any payments for folks who want to keep it simple, or we’d love to have you donate directly (tax breaks are real), and just let me know what you added so I can tabulate a final. I’ll make the donation from my venmo account, and I’m happy to post a ledger for transparency.
The Strohs have several folks with very direct ties to the area, myself included. The devastation is somehow worse than what you’re seeing on TV. This is the most impactful flood in terms of deaths and financial impact ever recorded. Your support matters more than you can know.
Please DM me with any questions as well. Thank you all.
