Sorry, I know there are a number of folks whose journey has been harder than mine. I’m not trying to diminish that, merely sharing my effort/struggle at my stature (acknowledging weight alone doesn’t tell the whole story).
I was a youth athlete who developed bad dietary habits that caught up with me in my adulthood. My weight rose as high as 252 a few years ago before I made a concerted effort to manage it. I’m now hovering around 215-220 and am trying to make the incremental adjustment to continue dropping.
Nah you’re good, man. Just making a joke. Everybody has their own struggles, and we’re all here to support each other and lift each other up. It’s just funny to think about how long ago it was that I weighed that little, and how I’d probably die if I fell down to that weight now
Protein is a focus when eating. My routine/historic breakfast is a protein loaded Greek yogurt with berries and almond granola (as an example).
As can be found earlier in this thread, I used Noom in the past to help me build new dietary habits, some of which have stuck, and other concepts that I am working to renew.
I went from 185 to 202 the winter of my freshman year because of actually lifting for the first time. Spent 3 years trying to get to 215 like our OC wanted me to to play TE at a little better weight, never topped 205.
Naturally no longer playing sports when I got to college caught up to me and I was 268 when I graduated. dropped 35 pounds 4ish years ago but have been sitting at a plataue of floating between 222-228 for the past couple years, some jumps up above 230 and a short couple weeks below 220.
My goal is to get below 215 before we go to Hawaii in October.
My HS weight progression had me go 195 as a freshman, to 225 as a sophomore, 245 as a junior and 265 as a senior. Weight lifting was a really big part of that. Hell, from 7th grade to senior year of college I went from 125 to 306!
The last year I wrestled in high school was as a junior and sitting there at 245 to 250 was a real sweet spot, especially since I never had to cut weight for heavyweight. Used to love sitting there on red letter days when everybody was cutting weight drinking a Coke and eating some Cheez-Its, ha!
I was 295 on weigh-in day for football as a senior. Was in the 1200-1300 range in the three powerlifting lifts. I think college weigh in as a freshman I was at like 315, after a summer of being lazy and drinking a lot. Closest I got to 300 again was when I was like 24 or 25, doing jiu jitsu and MMA, and weighed in at 304 for my second fight. But my body was so beat up from 8 straight months of hard training that I had to take a break from it, and then never got back to it. I was probably at line 420ish when I started working as a mailman, which is probably some kind of record. Was down to 360 after eight months of that. Slowly crept back up after 5 years at my current job, which is physically demanding but not quite as much, and I am on the road all day, and do some work in gas stations that have good food and abundant snacks, so staying away from all that is tough. I think I was back into the 390’s for a while. Doctor tried to get me on one of the GLP-1 shots, but couldn’t get insurance to cover anything, so she put me on Contrave. So far it’s been helpful at keeping me from wanting to snack and eat junk food all day, and today I was at 372. This is my slowest month of the year for work, so if I’m losing weight during January, I’ll probably be able to really do some damage during the summer when I’m burning like 1800-2000 kcal a day
Small win today: my wife ™️ sent me to McDonald’s to get a happy meal for the kiddo and a chicken sandwich for herself and I managed to abstain from ordering anything other than a Diet Coke for myself. Had some chicken and rice and then hopped on the treadmill for my 6th workout in 5 days. FitForGolf and a Stack session tomorrow!
If you ever get stuck there tho the $5 mcdouble meal isn’t too bad. The fries are the killer
If you’re looking to switch some things up ever you should try potatoes over rice. More filling, lower calorie, more nutrients. We buy the little gold ones, got them with available oil spray, toss with salt, and air fry for 20 minutes. They’re awesome.
We throw this local “chicken crack” seasoning from a place in Knoxville on them and they’re great. We probably do air fryer potatoes 2 nights a week here. Also highly recommend doing lean smash burgers (96% lean), 2% American cheese with keto buns. Great way to enjoy food you crave but much healthier. Hit those protein numbers.
Has anyone gone through Hims for compounded semaglutide? Considering it and it seems it’s only $165/month if you pay for the year up front, but just going through a website gives me a little pause. If it’s legit, though, it seems cheaper than other options.
