Heavyweights: Thicc Boys of the Refuge Unite!

I feel this a lot right now…just can’t seem to right the ship.

Road to hell, best intentions, all that.

Man just gotta get moving, once you get started it’s easier to keep the routine. Make a small change and stick with it then add another change.

Too much at once is unsustainable for most of us

Well I did just walk 6 miles playing golf today so that’s a plus.

Once had a coach who called this turning the cruise ship. Can’t do a U-turn, so they have to do a little at a time.

That’s a good analogy

Walked 18 today at the home course. Had a great day so saved some steps by walking straight a lot hahaha

I’m a big tinkerer and have made a plan where I can only buy gear/clubs when I hit certain weight loss milestones. When you’re in the wilderness putting and can’t buy a new putter until you drop 20 lbs, it’s pretty damn motivational

Hey brothers, new to this thread but not the refuge. I retired August 1st 2023 and proceeded to pack on the pounds. I had a pretty physical job so the change in activity level combined with worse eating habits ballooned by 6’2" frame to 255 lbs by the start of 2024.

Now, I was never a small guy and I come from a family of big people (I’m the smallest) but those are just excuses. At the start of 2024 I knew I needed to change some habits so I started with a daily stretching/body weight workout, added in a TreadClimber and committed to walking all my rounds. I also cut back on alcohol (but didn’t eliminate) and did eliminate all between meal snacks.

Midway through March I am below 235 and still dropping. It isn’t fast. We are talking a pound or 2 a week but its good progress. At the start of this I had a goal weight of 225 but I’m starting to think I could go lower.

I don’t miss the snacks and I don’t miss the extra beers. The workout routine is now habit and something I look forward to. Not bragging, just sharing an example of what is working for me.

Nice work! The 1 to 2 lbs a week is the very sustainable change I have been doing too. You said it perfectly that making better habits makes it a lot easier to hit goals.

Update for me:

Work has been busy and stressful lately, reducing my availability and will to exercise.

Last week I signed up for The Conqueror : LOTR journey as a fun motivator to get moving again. Also incorporating some body weight plyometrics into the workout.

… hoping to get back to a good shape before outdoor season takes off and walking rounds take over.
